Wireless Android Auto is working, thanks to Roman
« on: March 13, 2021, 05:13:00 PM »
So I got my wireless android auto working in my car! Thanks to Roman!

You do below entirely at your own Rick, don’t do it if in any doubt.

Setup was quick and easy.

Install android auto to your phone from Google’s play store.
Turn the car on or start it.
Delete current Bluetooth connection, in the infotainment system & your phone.
Pair your phone to car Bluetooth.
Press Home+volume +>>- -
Above may take 2 or 3 attempts , for the screen with “Smartphone Information” press smartphone information.
Press the android tab, opposite the Apple tab.
Select usb and wireless.
I would press the apple tab and select none if you don’t have an apple.
Press return several time to get back to the home screen.
You should now see an android auto button to press, press it.
It will now ask to pair if wireless connection is desired, pair again!

Do not press anything else, you may cause serious problems.

It should now work, it did for me!!
If not please see Romans’ post for more help.

My phone is a OnePlus 8T, with android version: Oxygen 11.0.7.10.KB05BA

You do above entirely at your own risk don’t do any of above if in doubt.

I can't get the Smartphone Information screen to show. What buttons are you pressing please? Assume they have to be pressed simultaneously?
Thanks!

I did the setting up for Android wireless and it sometimes works, however I now just plug the cable in because that usually, but not always, connects. I use Google maps from the phone for navigation and also stream an audio book from it, so on a long trip the phone needs to be kept charged, using the cable takes care that.

True, it is useful to have it charge the phone via the cable.

You can still charge a phone via one of the 1A USB ports and leave the 2.5A port for, in my case, my music on USB.
Let's be careful out there !

My phone stays in the glove compartment. I use a memory stick with music on it in the USB port, and I have no complaints with the Garmin navigation.

Google navigation is aware of current delays on the route and offers alternatives. I don't think the cars Garmin does that, or does it?

Are the OP's instructions for displaying the hidden menu correct?
The OP said: "Press Home+volume +>>- -"  but in another thread the instruction says:
"Press Home + Volume knob +  |<< button and hold for 30+ seconds"

Which is the correct option -  |<<  button or  >>| button  under the volume knob?

That is the 'massive' failing with the built in Garmin Nav. The HRV and Civic have a different mapping system and firmware that allows traffic via a smartphone connection.

I doubt whether our Jazz will be changed to receive traffic as Honda never retrofit if it's not safely related so Google Maps it is.
Let's be careful out there !

I have had traffic data and rerouting on the inbuilt Garmin while travelling through Germany .

I dont currently have android auto installed/activated. Not that complete ignorance of a subject normally stops me commenting   :P :-[

A couple of days ago I read somewhere that there is a major revision of android auto  in the last stages of  Beta testing and an update is expected shortly.  I believe its intended to harmonise it closer with other google products. With a different on screen appearance.  But it meant little to me and I dont know to what extent , if any,  it will affect new and existing installations on the Jazz .    Hopefully someone on here with more knowledge will be able to comment.  Meanwhile I will delay installation for a while.

It has shown me current roadworks, and it has offered alternative routes.

The traffic info is useful but not so essential if you live in a more rural area or you're travelling at an off-peak time. I can imagine it makes a big difference if you live near a big city like London for instance and you're commuting to the office but for me it's not a major issue

Minor hold ups are probably not a big issue but knowing about a multi mile almost stationary jam on a motorway is well worth knowing about.

Been there, got the t-shirt, etc

I used to do the M25 J11 to J15 in the evening peak.
Let's be careful out there !

I know this is an old thread, but .....

Over the last few weeks it's been hit and miss whether Android Auto kicks in or not. When it does it can be about 20 to 30 secs or anything up to 2 minutes ........ over 2 minutes and I know I'm going to get the phone incompatible message.

When I do, pressing the 'connect' again may work or I may have to restart the phone.

Has anyone tried both and is using the USB connection any more reliable ?
Let's be careful out there !
