right about 3 months ago my 07 jazz 1.4 developed a slight grinding noise from brakes when braking hard. changed the pads. although they were only about 50% worn. discs were changed about a year ago. all seamed fine but its started making that harsh grinding noise again. this only happens when the car has done a few miles and is warm and only with heavy braking. when cold its fine even with heavy braking. and its ok when warm with normal braking. just rechecked everything and all looks fine. pads are like new theres no sticking calipers or sliders.  any idea's ?

Does Here mapping have built in speed the same as OSM maps do

AFAIK 30 signs are few and far between because the street lights rule comes into play
It only displays speed roundels on the  driver display, Not also on the map display as the Honda Garmin did. Eagle eyed  front seat passengers can still see it  >:(   Saves taking  your eyes too far from the road.   It doesnt show your current speed but neither did the Honda Garmin.   (My old standalone Garmin does)

yes we really are revelling in  toasty bum  experiences  ;D .  Its not long ago I would have regarded heated seats and steering wheel as ridiculous decadence  except in arctic conditions.   I could again manage without them but hope I never have to.  :-*  No heated wheel less likely to  be a deal breaker.

I think it uses both GPS data and  sign recognition.  My driveway at home is only about 10 metres long,yet the 'Here' satnav  displays  it as an off road 'track' with no speed limit.(a grey roundel with two dashes)   Soon after I join the public highway  (which is a 30 mph limit)  it displays a 30 mph roundel and would chime if I exceeded it.   I am fairly sure this is before I have passed any 30 mph roundel that it could have read.  . So the system either uses  gps  data ,or somehow remembers the limit was 30 mph when I previously left that road. .  I think if someone put a 20 mph roundel on their dustbin it would read that and display 20 mph instead .  I dont know what would happen if someone falsely displayed a convincing roundel higher than the applicable limit. 

The newer mk4's  where speed alerts are compulsory  have "Here" satnav, not Garmin.  I think I read on this site that its more compatible with the alert system.   It does make sense to use GPS at times as many Urban areas in the  UK and  on the continent rely more on the drivers knowing they are within an urban speed area because of village name boards, presence of lamp posts etc   rather than displaying numerous speed limit signs all over town.

Are you sure it is engine related? Seems like one of the tires is touching another part when cornering.

We have a 2004 Jazz 1.3 that runs like a top except on spirited off ramps (especially the 270 degree curves) will spew bluish smoke out the tail pipe.  We have connected this to the loss of oil in the sump - 2 quarts in 4000 miles.  No leaks on the ground - thankfully.  Honestly, it could be on left turns as well, but no opportunities here in Germany to demonstrate that easily.

Admittedly, I've fitted this Jazz with Eibach sport springs and drive it on the 'cam' as much as possible...which means round the corners with gusto!  But this Jazz will leave a smoke screen when warm, higher rpm, and hard corner - why?  It is not the piston rings - no smoke any other time.  Not the valve seals as it happens on neutral and full throttle.

Additionally, we've had two other Jazz's and neither have had this issue driven the same way.

It appears the oil puddles and then when we turn it flows into the intake manifold somehow.  The hose going to the intake piping after the air filter and before the throttle body is dry.  I wonder if the PCV valve is not functioning correctly?  Or maybe the baffles in the valve cover (are there any?) are causing an issue...

I can't take this on the Nurburgring if every hard right corner, it puts out a smokescreen!  :-)

There are a couple of things I would investigate further, but not sure how much information is available from a scan tool on a Jazz.

The amount of fuel that is injected into the engine is determined by the ECU calculating the mass of air that is being pulled into the engine.

To do this, it uses the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow Sensor) which actually works be measuring the VELOCITY of the air in the intake, then uses other data such as air temperature, inlet diameter, air pressure to calculate the MASS of air accordingly.

See if you can see data from the MAF sensor and the air temperature sensors as those are the first things to suspect .... also look around for splits in hoses etc that can allow unmetered air to enter the engine without passing by the MAF sensor.

You could try unplugging the MAF to see what happens. You would probably get an error code, but the ECU should revert to a default map if it senses that the MAF is no longer present. Also, try gently cleaning the MAF sensor with some electrical contact cleaner (that completely evaporates) and a cotton wool bud to remove any residue that might be coating it.

This is the primary method that the ECU uses to calculate injecttion times etc. The  O2 sensors take a while to warm up and get going, but when they do, the ECU looks at the data to determine how succesful it has been in producing the right mixture at the front end of the engine, and adjusts accordingly.

thanks a lot for the reply. As far as I understand, the Jazz II doesn't have a MAF sensor but just a MAP sensor which the ECU uses to calculate the Mass Air Flow. I will again next week check the values of this with a diagnostic tool and see if they align with recommended values corresponding to different RPMs. Update since this post was made: we recently checked the fuel injectors and they seem to be spraying ok and don't seem broken in any way. We will also do the smoke test to check for any leaks in/before the intake manifold. Is it common for the MAP/MAF sensors to fail? There also isn't any hissing sound for vacuum leaks but I guess this isn't always the case right? The diagnostic tool doesn't show any errors since the Oxygen sensors were replaced; it runs rich but not super rich.
