Jazz consumption competition
« on: August 19, 2022, 12:04:53 PM »
My dealer has invited me to compete in his weekly JAZZ ,consumption competition over a predetermined route, taking abut 20 minutes.
Lowest consumption of the week gets a £50 M&S voucher.
Is this his own idea or is it a Honda U.K. scheme?

Interesting,  is the MPG based on real world figures or Honda's Guessometer or Honda App Journeys,⛽️

If the dealer relies on what the fibometer reports then it implies that all the vehicles are set up with the same fudge factor which makes the mpg looks better than the truth based on fuel into tank.

Chose a warm windless day for doing the circuit as that will give the minimum overall wind losses. And choice of time of day with minimum traffic will facilitate smooth and most economical driving.

Ah yes, preparation.

Empty all cubby holes, car light as possible
Tyre Pressures maybe up a psi or 2
No passengers
Aircon and heating off
Windows shut
Radio off, save electric for drive

What have I missed :)

Let's be careful out there !

Get a lorry to drive in front of you to cut down on drag while you're in his slipstream  :)
It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

I assume I turn up, am told the route, get in and go, so tyres etc will not be possible. I shall certainly turn everything off that is possible and keep the windows shut.
TG it won't be 80F! ;)

I would have thought the most important thing would have been to start off with a fully charged high voltage battery.

Better to start off with engine heated to it`s working temperature - 80 degrees C.
In summer engine get to this temperature after driving 8-10 km in town with speed 40-50km/h
Don`t relay on regeneration, use glide (coast) technique where this possible, if you can  drive this road before competition.

I think I've missed something here. You own an HR-V but you're being asked to take part in a competition for Jazz owners? Although I guess it'd be (mildly) interesting to see if an HR-V could beat the best Jazz.
Re your final question, it can only be a local thing, otherwise they'd be expecting folks to travel from all over the country to get to the route.

Colin,
The sales manager of Horizon Poole, with whom I have a very good relationship, as one would after waiting 6 months for the HR-V.!.!.!. Simply thought I might like to join in the fun and have a go at the competition on the Jazz consumption.
I was interested and test drove the Crosstar and had I been able to 'fit it',would have bought one. As you can see, I have owned a Jazz in the past and SWMBO drives a Jazz currently.
As far as my question is concerned, I think you may have missed the point.
I was wondering if it was something Horizon had organised themselves for their customers or if It was a Honda scheme which ALL dealers were meant to join in across the country.
Cheers,
The other one! ;D.

I think the "challenge" involves doing a test drive in one of Horizon's vehicles

This is purely a sales promotion.  I am with the same dealer and have a four year old HR-V but have also be spammed with the same invitations.

So the sales manager is getting in extra brownie points by making you think you are special.  I am also getting emails telling me who has won each week.
