Buzzing noise when accelerating.
« on: October 21, 2021, 08:20:41 AM »
Hi
I have Jazz 1.4 ES Plus I-VTEC, 27 000 miles, year 2014, assembled in UK.  What can it be? Just bough it few days ago, 2nd owner. While accelerating on 3,4 or 5th gear you could hear a slight buzzing high-pitch sound. When going steady speed - no sound. Coasting - no sound. Seems like the noise is coming from somewhere around engine or gearbox or around chassis.

Sounds like an engine-related 'sympathetic vibration' to me. Check everything under the bonnet to see if there's anything touching or loose. Probably something and nothing and could even be the exhaust pipe vibrating against a mounting or shield?

I had a tinny buzzing on one car and it was the bracket fixing heatshield to exhaust and the weld had broken,  it tends to be worse at certain engine revs ( mainly higher revs IIRC )  as the part develops resonance.  A larger metal jubillee clip ( worm drive pipe clamp ) fixed it, just clamped the bracket tab back to exhaust pipe. On the MK2 Jazz the CAT is between engine and firewall and has a heatshield,  hard to get to though.  A loose air filter housing can also cause a rattling noise.  The Gearbox in MK2 should not develop the same bearing noises as in MK1,  in any case the gearbox noise is more of a whine than a buzz, and gets louder as more power applied.

Hi Tuner,
I have the same issue with my Honda Jazz 1.4 I-VTEC, manual gearbox. So I am very curious if you managed to find what is causing this buzzing/whistling, have you?
Thanks.
