Spark plugs.

Hi, there fellow jazzers,what is the life of spark plugs? Ive just had my jazz serviced at 44000 miles at a local garage they renewed the spark plugs I thought they where good up to 70,000 miles.the car gets serviced every year,I think they are the original plugs,I bought the car from this garage in march 2015 with 15,904 on the clock.service this year come to £534.24. I’m glad I got that little rant of my chest.oh the plugs where £32.82p each.

Double Iridium spark plugs are good for 70,000 miles

I thought it was just me, but £534 does seem inordinately high, perhaps double what you would expect to pay.
A lot of the guys on here service their own cars, and obviously would not even get close to this figure.

Well I’m a tight Yorkshireman so to me that’s high, could buy half a house for that here in Hull, must’ve had some quality servicing!

Given the appalling faff to change the plugs on a Mark 2 Jazz. anyone not buying double iridium plugs lasting 70k miles is saving pennies to spend £s.. That list contains mostly unsuitable plugs on that basis.

I agree,  get decent plugs from a reputable place... The Cox motors price is £22 each for genuine Honda  plug, not too bad really compared to some places.  Horror stories about fake plugs with melting electrodes ( engine damage ), dodgy threads, shonky crush washers...  I have got plugs from Opie before and never had a problem.

Unless you cover 70,000 miles a year you won't need new spark plugs for a while yet - call me cynical, but did they actually fit new plugs at 44,000 miles

Small detail but I think the plugs are 75K - I think everything is in multiples of 12,500 miles.   Our 2014 car is on about 55K and I aksed the indie who services it and he said no problem to leave them until they're due.

If the car is 11 yrs old and has all its servicing done as required every year then is should only need a basic service.

What plugs did they fit? Worth checking with them as they may not have replaced like for like.

As far as I remember having done it on my partner's Mk2 few month ago, iridium plugs came for less than £70 from Opies, at the same time I did coolant change plus the usual service things like oil and filters change. All came to around £160-170.
To do the job you need socket wrench and specialist spark plug tool available for less than £10 from any Halfords, the access is incredibly narrow and most standard sockets don't fit in.
I recommend having torque wrench that can do 10+ Nm as well.
