I say this mostly in jest, but with an element of truth.  ;D

All new cars should be fitted with a horn that sounds like a  duck quacking. Perfect for a short 'I am here' quack.
But less likely to be used aggressively because you would sound like a manic mallard.  :-X

Many devices stop working when they have a quack in them....

The only 'manic mallard' I know is this one..

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

I have swapped my Crosstar standard horns for a pair from my local car accessory shop but I decided to also  buy a cheap set from the auction site, just for the correct connection to the Honda harness as I did not want to cut anything.

On my MKIII sport I could not get to the horns without a lot of work but it was a lot easier on the Crosstar as both horns are mounted higher up and you just have to pop off the top cover at the front of the car.

Naughty ;D
Must admit I dont use mine as often a some advocate.
I prefer the motorcyclist tactic ,  assuming you are invisible and  always able to avoid them whatever they might ,or might not, do.    I occasionally do an 'I am here' toot but dont rely on them reacting.
Rarely I do  a retrospective " I was here, I hope you realise you didnt see me and need to improve"  type hoot.  (not strictly within the highway code  :-[)

The standard ex horn sounds ok to me.

Yup, same here. Riding on two wheels is a great way to learn caution on the road. It would be good if all road users could start off on low powered motorcycles.

What about the CANBUS? No problems?

Who advocates that?
I meant individuals who may rely on their horns more often than they should.
Advanced motoring organisations  take a more pragmatic approach.  The best defensive driving is to keep out of their range. Not relying on the horn stopping them in their tracks. If they cant reach you there is less need to warn them.   :P

On a blind bend etc where you cant control the other vehicles speed of approach, or  an advanced warning so they wont be startled and do something irrational.  Or a gentle toot to remind them the lights have been green for 10 seconds    Ok

Beyond that it quickly gets into "get out of my way" territory.

No issues, the horn is conventionally wired and via a relay.

Don't need to use the horn that often but if I need to I prefer to have one that does not sound like a moped.

Honda also fit this type of horn to there motorcycles, so I have replace mine with the same horn as on the car.

I was parked up on my bike when a driver of a Nissan Oashqai started reversing into me ,even though they had loads of room in front of them to pull out and I was glad that I had a louder horn fitted.
