Try a CVT fluid changed first.
If it does need replacing rather just find a 2hnd one.

Apart from the noise does it have any other issues?

Fluid is fine, changed regularly, noise is whirring related to engine speed, only occurs at low speed. Thinking torque convertor as this locks when moving

As I have said elsewhere, try a Transmission Specialist.
After exorbitant quotes to have my gearbox repaired at a "garage" I tried specialists.
I ended up going to: https://www.topgear.uk.net/
My repair cost £324 all in (similar symptoms to yours but on a manual - Input shaft bearing).
You and your other half could drive up, drop the car off, spend a night in a nice hotel in Glasgow, pick the car up the following day before driving home. For a fraction of the cost.

I remembered a thread from a short while ago, where the OP was facing the same problem, might be worth a read.

They were look at the best part of £3K for a rebuild at an independent, but found a used gearbox for £300 in the end, don't know how they got on, but there are gearboxes out there.

I hope you have some joy with Honda, but it is a 9 year car, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. It would be a shame to write the car off for a gearbox, and at that age, you need to be looking for a relatively cheap option.

You've a choice, unload your Jazz via WBAC or Motorway take the cash
 or
Find another CVT from a salvage yard then obtain a few quotes from idependent gbox specialists.
If it were mine I would go with another  CVT, good luck.

Hi,
As expected, honda don't want to know, I said that a bearing wouldn't  have failed at less than 65000 miles unless it was faulty but they just keep repeating 9 years old. When I bought this I had the choice of two at the same price but had this one as it had low milage but was 2 years older, now I know better. Car will be going to a transmission specialist next week, let's hope they can sort it but honda don't do bearing kits for this gearbox. This will be my last honda due to this,
Chris

I can remember a time not so long ago when a car would need an engine rebuild ( minimum rebore and new big ends, maybe a crank regrind ) around the same mileage as your Jazz, and maybe new clutch and work on the gearbox as well, that would be if the bodywork was in any fit state to pass an MOT... Funny how expectations change.

Just scan some of the other makers forums and you will find similar or worse cases and moans than on here, car maker cannot be held responsible for things failing for the life of the car, too many things are out of their control once the car has left their factory.

Cars these days are much better than cars have ever been,  they are also way more complex and many more things to fail, reliability normally gets worse with increasing complexity as the MTBF ( mean time between failures ) as each component can fail, and there are many more of them. Being more complex also means 'cost more to repair'...  I am sticking with manual boxes as long as I can press the clutch pedal,  and do not want a lot of gizmos on the car either.

I had cars in the past that were money pits,  non of the Honda cars I have had have cost me a penny outside of normal consumables like brake pads, discs etc so total running costs have been very low and reliability out of this world.

Good Luck. What Culzean says is probably what every maker would say - but £14,400 - jeez. I saw my 63 reg as likely to be my last car but I'll probably bail out if the repair cost you get is into 4 figures.

makes the cost of fixing a manual box look a real bargain...

Here is a thought,  many German WW2 tanks were rendered unusable due breakdowns rather to enemy action, German equipment got larger and more and more complex as the war progressed and with the complexity it became impossible to keep them in working order, a lot of German cars have the same problem,  I saw an article the other day that described German cars as 'fragile' if the strict ( and expensive ) servicing is not maintained - same with their motorbikes., buying one of their overpriced vehicles is just the start of your financial journey...

Story is the Germans captured a Russian T-34 tank and sent it to the German tank factory asking it they could build them, the German tank makers said 'nein - it is too simple and would not pass our quality control' - the rest is history.

Hi,
What annoys me is the total lack of help from honda, no info anywhere about what the spec is for the bearings, the older versions have a bearing kit available. My specialist will have to remove and strip it then try and id the bearings, going to cost me a arm and a leg in labour charges. May be easier to trade it in, it'll  probably run for another 50,000 miles, who knows,
Chris
