Using Twitter interupts radio !?!
« on: January 19, 2022, 04:17:16 PM »
Scenario: I'm a passenger, being driven with radio playing away quite happily.  Phone is not connected to car by USB and Bluetooth is NOT on.  I pick up phone to use twitter and radio stops and screen displays 'No title' message as shown in the image.

Nothing else was active on phone apart from Twitter which was using a 4G signal.

Can anyone tell me why this occured and how do I prevent it?

...I know you say the phone isn't connected at that point but if you press the Audio Source button, top right, what does the car think the source is?

I'll check tomorrow and report back.  But irrespective of that how is it getting the signal?

If your phone is set up to broadcast itself as a Wifi hotspot, the car might be trying to connect to it perhaps? I don't know as I don't have a Jazz right now, but it seems feasible.

In that picture it shows Paul's iPhone.

Is that your phone? If so then it is connected, look at the list of phones.
Let's be careful out there !

Not set up as hotspot.

My phone… but how is it connecting. No Bluetooth, No USB cable, No Wi-Fi hotspot. What other possibilities?

Quantum entanglement?

That's the simple explanation.  ;D

I'd still be interested to see the list of connected phones on the head unit.

What this behaviour is suspiciously showing is that Twitter is opening up a phonecall connection behind the scenes. Why? Step 1 maybe look at Twitter permissions on your phone.

Its connected by wireless CarPlay and I presume by activating the phone it is expecting an audio output that's why it changes source from presumably Radio (DAB. FM etc.) to CarPlay

With no bluetooth though how does the radio even know the phone is there?  The phone was active doing other things (eg Using Safari) before this event.

Hi

If you look at your picture, it shows wifi connected. So presume it is connected to your mobile

Many thanks

John

But has it ever been connected via USB cable? It would have had a pop-up asking to continue with wireless carplay in the future.

CarPlay uses its own bluetooth/wifi connection to connect.

If you look into the audio settings you will find the list of Carplay active devices.

General settings> Smartphone connections> Apple Carplay

How could that have happened? and how could a car's wifi be picking up a signal from a phone that is not connected by cable, USB or wifi?

That's how Carplay works. It sets up an ad-hoc WiFi network and both car and phone connect to it.

You will have registered your phone to the car at some point.
