The Mark 4 Jazz is properly an e-HEV ie Hybrid Electric Vehicle. What on earth is this crazy e-CVT
eg e electric CVT Continuously Variable Transmission, as in the old two opposed cone and belt drive. OK you argue that it is Variable, there is nothing variable in terms of drive, such as changeable gear ratios as in a shift gearbox. or belt and cone. The only variability is speed that it spins at. I had a garage mechanic tell me that it doesn't have gears, yes it does but in fixed gear train ratio's. One train from the engine through a multi-plate clutch hydraulically actuated and the other from an electric motor's rotor fixed directly in the train to the road wheels. The electric motor train also has a generator rotor on the same shaft, further away from the wheel drive. There is also a safety break away clutch and flywheel combined just before the differential drive output in case of dramatic torque shock.
Hence, the electric drive motor and generator are directly connected and acting in tandem with the road wheels at all times. When more power is required the engine is connected through the multi-plate clutch and both drives supply the wheels. Incidentally the electric motor/generator and petrol engine have their independent oil systems, oil pumps and water cooling systems. So Honda, please stop using the CVT label and perhaps e-Torque Hybrid, e-SpinnyThingummy, or something more suitable
