195/55 R16 rear tyres on a jazz
« on: April 23, 2022, 07:25:25 PM »
Hi guys

I had a pair of 195/55R16 rear tyres fitted to a normal Jazz with a pair of standard front ones (holidays, nothing is open) after I'd blown my front tyre earlier today, and I wonder how soon I should start worrying about something. On a positive note, I have a spare original one now sitting on my balcony.

Thanks for any advice.

As long as they stay on the rear wheels, the only "problem" is that your Jazz has grown 5,5 millimetres higher at the rear.  :D
If they were on the front wheels you would get a speedometer deviation of 1.8%, 120 kmh on the 185/55R16 becomes slightly more than 122 kmh on the 195/55R16.
However, I have no idea how it is in Sweden Romania or Ukraine with the regulations regarding type approval, whether your Jazz still meets the legal requirements and how your insurer would react on the "not original" size.

PS We see such a lot of blue-yellow here in Poland and I still thought Sweden?

Ooh, 5.5 millimeters higher sounds cool.

I'm in Romania right now, originally from Ukraine. Guess I'll swap the tyres at the earliest opportunity, because I can't even really talk to the insurance people due to language barrier.

Thanks!

Sorry for Sweden.   See my edited post of April 23, 2022, 09:31:47 PM.

It occurs to me, that you will probably have the TPMS warning going off, due to the difference in diameter of the tyres.

I put new tyres on the front of mine with the rears on 2mm tread and mine doesn't keep going off, so that can't be the case.

I think the tpms  relearns the new rolling diameter of the tyre . New 195/55/R16 tyres initially have a larger rolling diameter  but probably in the right ball park for the tpms to learn it as a new normal.   Once its tread  wears down to 2mm its rolling diameter would be about the same as a new 185/55/R16 anyway.

TPMS  presumably compensates for   rolling diameter changes due to pressure changes as tyres warm up  or cool down in use or because of ambient temperature.       But activates if the rolling diameter of one tyre deviates unexpectedly  from the others  due to a puncture , or uneven pressure when adding air . TPMS can also activate  if newly fitted tyres  take a few miles to become fully flexible and bed in.

If  two tyres are replaced at the same time on the same axle,  with equal pressures  they will rotate equally .The TPMS may be none the wiser that these are not the same tyres that had been rotating equally  before.

Yes it does recognise the change of any tyre/tyres.  You have to carry out an initial calibration.

On my MKIII Jazz, I had a puncture repaired and that took three calibrations before it finally stopped complaining.
