2020 Jazz Crosstar Catalytic converters?
« on: March 10, 2021, 02:00:57 PM »
Does the Crosstar  have 2 Catalytic converters  - 1 close-coupled in the engine bay and another as the exhaust exits the engine bay? I have been underneath and saw the close-coupled one in the engine bay and it looks like another (half in/ half out of the engine bay)  - interested,  as I had my Cat stolen from my previous car (Toyota Auris Estate) and hoped that the 2020 Jazz would be more secure.

I have not seen the mk4, but the mk3 has a close coupled warm-up cat which is part of the manifold, and a main cat on the downpipe - but still half within the engine bay. It sounds like yours is similar.

So long as there's no access to the pipe in front of the cat, there is no chance of them being able to get a pipe cutter on it. They also have far less scrap value than the mk1 cats, which are the favourite targets.

The Crosstar not having an undertray may make it easier
Let's be careful out there !

The front subframe should stop access, that's a far more substantial barrier.

You're not going to get a pipe cutter on that.

How about one of those reciprocal saws?

The video I saw of thieves running off, that was what they had been using.

The front pipe is well over the front subframe, and you would still have to be reasonably perpendicular to the pipe - which at that point is heading up to the manifold cat. I don't think it would be possible.

It's a lot of effort to steal something that's not worth much for scrap.

Many thanks  for  your thoughts,  makes me feel much better - I've been slightly  paranoic about Catalytic converters since losing one on my Auris during a short daytime visit to a local Garden Centre ( without  CCTV where I parked ). Auris now traded in for a new Crosstar which  is excellent  - indicated 70mpg on all local journeys, smooth and quiet.

According to the MarkLines report (see topic What's under the bonnet), that is the GPF, not another catalytic converter.
