Title: Queries after delivery of new hybrid
Post by: Country Cousin on August 05, 2022, 11:23:16 AM
Our new Jazz hybrid has arrived replacing a Mk III EX CVT. So far we are very pleased with it enjoying the generally improved performance, ride (despite 16” wheels) and quietness.

A minor drawback is that we find the boot is noticeably shallower in use and sometimes need to fold the rear seat down when previously we wouldn't have. And of course there is no room for a spare.

I am sorry Honda have deleted the passenger seat height adjustment. I would also have liked to have had the option of the x-star radio upgrade.

But overall when I have dicovered out how to adjust the intermittent steering ‘help’ I expect to be well pleased.

Some outstanding queries for comments please:
1. There is no service book or handbook wallet! The salesman said a service book would be issued at the first service but if so why not issue it at delivery?
2. Our last car came with a ‘key number tag’ attached to one of the keys to order a replacement if needed. This time we were not given one despite it being referred to on page 168 of the handbook. Have others received one or is this also something that has been dispensed with?
3. For low mileage drivers who now drive < 8k/annum, is it considered better to opt for servicing by date or to use the built in automatic service reminder (assuming it is activated)? Presumably if this works as advertised it should anyway flag up the need for a service and oil change at no greater than 1 year, possibly more frequently given the number of short 3-5 miles journeys we take (I hasten to add less than 3 miles we usually cycle!)

Many thanks in advance for any guidance.

Just on the service book issue, my Mk4 had a service book on delivery. It also had a handbook which is not as comprehensive as the manual which is available on line.

I took delivery in October last year - maybe things have changed?

I've just checked my spare key and I have a key tag with number and barcode.

I also have the manuals and service book, in the lower glovebox on collection.

With regard to servicing, some posts here do indicate that it can flag up premature services, sometimes only weeks apart. When mine goes in in a few weeks I'm going to ask them to turn off variable servicing as I'm also low mileage.

My car is on variable service. Bought Aug 26 last year and done just under 3200 miles. About 3 weeks ago it warned of service due soon., had it serviced on Tuesday.

My Crosstar is just over 1 year old. It came with handbook and service book. The car is set to fixed servicing, the service warning light came on about four weeks before the 12 months was up. The service book was stamped after it was serviced though everything is also online so a stamped service book history is not as important as it used to be.

In your post you mentioned an interest in the upgraded sound system in the Crosstar. It wasn’t a feature I was particularly looking for and not an influencer on final choice, but I am delighted with it. Very clear sound and far better than my previous two cars (Golf and Land Rover).

But the upgraded Crosstar sound system is not available in the Jazz even as an option.

Not everyone has Internet access so the missing manual is surely a dealer issue ?

I got a service book and handbook in October 2021  ,but read on earlier threads on here that they are no longer issued.I didnt realise this also includes the handbook.    To be fair the handbook is bulky, and inconvenient to keep in the car.   The online version is better, and more comprehensive.   It can be udated, and doesnt involve chopping down trees.   And you can download it to your phone  so you dont need mobile data. (I even have one from a previous  car downloaded as a pdf onto  my kindle!.)

All those reading this have access to the internet.  A few ,mostly older, people may still be totally  avoiding anything to do with the internet, smartphones etc.      To those I say   :P    -ha ha you cant hear me  :P      They will probably really struggle trying to work the cars touch screens, computer technology etc anyway   (and not just them  ;) )

I think the handbook has a part number, so the dealer may be able to provide one if absolutely  necessary, although it may be chargeable and quite expensive. For those without a smartphone it might be cheaper to buy  a cheap one  and if necessary download the manual using free wifi.  And add it to your learning curve. ;D

I never use my phone for any small text, a lot of it not compatible with old eyes, even with reading glasses. Just too fiddly.

I primarily use my 10" tablet indoors that I find perfectly OK, but a phone screen browser is just too small.

Fair enough. But I cant say I have ever needed to use the paper  handbook (or the phone version) while out and about.

Isn't the handbook also built into the car's infotainment system? That would be fine for quick reference although not a convenient solution for browsing all the vehicle's features and functions.

It is... never even tried to open it. Always here (https://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/haushalt/d054.gif) when needed.

Don't you need a local Internet connection to download it in the first place though ?

I'm sure mine was unavailable until I connected the car to my router, but I could be wrong, I've been to sleep since then  :)

My HR-V e:HEV (delivered 15/1/22) came with bulky handbook, key tag and no service book. It is also in the cars infotainment system.
No manufacturer's supply service books anymore as far as I am aware. It is all kept on the manufacturer's computer. Keep your invoices to prove the service history.

The manual was available in my car when I bought it, but I had to go to All Apps and select it to show.

Thank you all for the comments.

I have spoken again with the salesman who tells me it is now Honda policy NOT to provide service books or issue key number tags as all records are now kept online so presumably all dealers should have access to the relevant records. By implication this means Jazz owners from now on will have no key or service record other than the invoices and receipts issued to them.

I will be interested to see if copy documents are still issued to those on a service contract who do not pay for maintenance services (like us). If not these owners will have no records at all (other than through the dealers).

Regarding the x-star radio upgrade, what I really wanted was not the whole package with bass speaker taking up space in the boot (wholly unnecessary in my view) but the dash central speaker and door tweeters to augment higher frequencies and improve audio speech clarity.  Given that many buyers are older and have age related high frequency hearing loss I think Honda are missing an opportunity here.

I have the 5 years free servicing. When my car was serviced on Tuesday I was given the same invoice and report as if I was paying.

The excellent speech clarity in the Crosstar audio is what appeals to me, it really is exceptional. Agree with you about the sub woofer in the boot, but some people really want the extra bass. I found out whilst playing with the audio settings that you can independently adjust the sub woofer volume.
I recently saw a YouTube review of the Crosstar where the (young) reviewer plugged in some MP4 tracks on a USB stick and merrily blasted out some music at high volume with plenty of bass! Each to their own.

Oh, and before anyone comments I am aware that upgraded audio is not a Jazz option.

Honda cutting corners again, a written service record is essential when reselling your car, although I expect the service reports may be sufficient, I would still want a stamp in a service book after each service and I expect buyers of 2nd hand cars would be expecting a stamped service book to proove the car had been regularly serviced

When part exchanging a Honda for another make of vehicle then I am sure the dealer would expect a copy of the service record but would not have access to the Honda on line system.

I've always negotiated a period of free servicing with my 3 Civics and in all cases, across 3 dealers, because it's not being paid my me, they stamp the book and give me the keys.

No paperwork at all.

No problem as I have the stamped book, but with neither !

Can you request a printed service statement from a Honda dealer if you sell elsewhere ?

When I traded in my 2015 Skoda Fabia I handed the Honda dealer my pile of service receipts. The Fabia had a service book but it only details the service schedule, there was nowhere to stamp each service.

I have my first Jazz service in a few weeks.

I've got a free 5 year service deal so I'll see if any paperwork is included.

I do have a service book though.

When I had my first service in June under the 5 year servicing plan, the book was stamped and I was given paperwork detailing the work that was undertaken.

Back in 2014 I bought a brand new Land Rover. No service book, everything online, got a receipt at each service and kept them up until 5 years old when I sold it. It was also possible to access the online service history. Presumably accessing online history is not possible with Honda.

Here in New Zealand the car came with a printed handbook/car manual but there is no online manual available from the dealer and no manual loaded into the Infotainment system for display on the screen.
I have downloaded the UK Jazz hybrid manual but it does have a number of differences to my printed manual.
A service book was not supplied but I did get a key identification tag.

My last Volkswagen about 3 years ago had no service book, the records were kept online.

I asked for a printed copy of the service record.

When you have your Honda serviced you should be given a detailed invoice of what they have done. You are within  your rights to demand such.
Simply save all the invoices ::) simple and much better than a stamped service book as it will give full details of what work was carried out. A far more comprehensive service history.

Hello,
I connected to the Honda website to see the digital maintenance log, but I did not find much information,
indicates the data of the car the color the number of doors the type of fuel (P I don't know what it means) transmission (A I imagine it will be automatic) ratios (6 I don't understand why this data is automatic) the weight of the car.
It indicates the mileage at which the service was done but does not specifically say what was done and even by whom the maintenance was performed.
It is true that I have everything in paper form (payment invoice with a list of things done to the car).
What do you find written in your digital maintenance register?
P.S
My car is from 2020 and has all the paper booklets (navigator warranty maintenance etc. etc.)

(Sorry for the mistakes I used Google Translate)

I have checked my digital service record and it is exactly the same as yours. No information on what was carried out at the June service. I too have paper record and stamped service book.

Honda doesn’t exactly excel at software, does it?
