The longer they put it off before owning up (or getting caught) the less shocked people are because when you've already heard it about many times it doesn't have the same impact, VW have already taken the big hit for it, I'd be amazed if there aren't more to come.
I think reliability is a bigger issue at the moment for Land Rover or at least looking after their customers when things go wrong, I've heard no end of stories (including people I actually know) saddled with big bills (£5000+) for common faults in gearboxes out of warranty but well within the expected lifetime of any gearbox. They don't do themselves any favours keeping long term customers, this appears to be where the Japanese and Korean manufacturers appear to do better. Once you p!*s off someone enough to leave your brand it's almost impossible to get them back. Sorry if I sent a bit off topic.
