CVT starter clutch?
« on: August 16, 2018, 10:46:30 AM »
Hi.  I've got a 2006 CVT which has done about 80K miles. Recently power has dropped off a bit and MPG is down from 45 to 41. Also on a slight uphill with car in drive and feet off pedals car slips backwards .  Honda dealer (who hasn't seen car or run diags) said it sounds like starter clutch which they quote £1350.00 to change.

My questions are whether a starter clutch is likely to need replacing at 80K miles? And is there a diagnostic a dealer can run which would confirm if thats the issue?

If it does need doing is 1350 reasonable?  Sounds steep to me and is probably more than the car is worth.

Many thanks
Andy

£595 is less than half what you were quoted, and from a Honda dealer.

Thanks for the response. I definitely need to find a new Honda dealer... maybe I'll try Rotherham  :D

Any thoughts on what mileage these starter clutches fail at or if a problem with the clutch can be diagnosed for certain?
