iridium spark plugs
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:42:23 PM »
i take it all new jazz models (1.2 and 1.4) now come standard with iridium spark plugs that last 62,500 miles

well that will be good if it is true as they are so awkward to get to

I think so. I guess that is why a change of spark plugs is not included in the Honda 5 year service plan.

Hi Monkeydave. I can't find anywhere where it talks about a plug change every 2 years. The service book I have does not show any time limit for a plug change (or anything else for that matter) because it is all classed as "variable servicing". It does show different groupings of maintenance items which are identified by the symbols A, B, and 2 to 9. A is an oil change. B is a list of various "check" and "inspect" items.

The Honda 5year plan lists:
year1   AB
year2   AB2 - A & B plus replace dust & pollen filter and inspect drive belt
year3   AB78 - A & B plus replace brake fluid and air cleaner element
year4   AB2 - as year 2
year5   AB9 - A & B plus inspect valve clearance.

Maintenance items 3, 4, and 5 (there is no 6) are not included in the 5 year plan. These are:
3 - replace transmission fluid
4 - replace fuel filter, inspect idle speed & replace spark plugs
5 - replace engine coolant

This is why I have got the idea that the plugs don't have to be changed in the first five years but I stand to be corrected on this. I would be interested if anyone can point me to any other source that shows anything different. Thanks.

thanks for your reply, my service indicator didnt get switched on at pdi which i dont mind as i want to do annual servicing or 12,500 miles i just wondered

i think they must have used iridium plugs as they are tucked away right at the back and ive heared they take the wipers and cowl off to get to them  :o

When my last EX (09 plate) went in for 25,000 mile service the plugs weren't changed. When I asked why I was told they were iridium.

Just wanted to share the very latest on Jazz Plugs see reply from NGK Uk below

Dear XXXX,

The latest 2012 Honda Jazz uses an NGK spark plug as production fit for
this model. Unfortunately it has not been made available to us yet in the
aftermarket, and as such is only only available through the Honda main
dealer network. It should have NGK stamped on the spark plug along with
DIFR6A13G, which is it's item number that is supplied to Honda, however
this may change number once it becomes available in the aftermarket.

The spark plug is also a very high specification, long life, double fine
electrode design which may not require replacing for quite a considerable
mileage, so you should check  first with your local Honda agent for the
recommended service schedule for your vehicle.

Thank you for your enquiry.

I would check the original handbook came with the car for the recommended spark plugs.
My GD jazz has a recommended  NGK BKR6E-11 plug and Denso something.

Anyway, mid summer I will replace the standard ones with the iridium NGK BKR6EIX-11 ones.
