Many Spare parts for Honda are not stocked in the UK
« on: June 15, 2021, 05:06:27 PM »
I needed a new mirror housing for my MK4 jazz this year but the part had to be shipped from Belgium which took several days. In 2018 my MK3 Jazz was off the road for a week waiting for a failed sensor replacement to be shipped from Belgium.

Centralise parts warehousing makes economic sense, preventing duplication.

If I’m not mistaken, there used to be a scooter and/or motorcycle factory in Aalst, Belgium many many moons ago. I think the Super Cub was assembled there. Now the Honda sites at Ghent and Aalst are the main logistics hub for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Under present circumstances, having the parts bin in the EU could cause unexpected delays.
Let's be careful out there !

Honda have had their parts logistics based in Belgium for over 30 years.

In earlier days parts ordered by 8.00pm were delivered into dealers across Europe for 6.00am the next day using the TNT Express Worldwide Overnite European Air Network (as were urgent production parts sourced across Europe for factories for GM and Ford).

It worked very efficiently with excellent service levels well before the EU Single Market using pre clearance procedures for Customs.

I suspect these are now 2/3 day road movements through other carriers with no Customs pre clearance as the opportunities for further economies (with a noticeable, possibly thought acceptable, decline in service levels) were identified.
