Honda SuperCub motorcycle
« on: June 01, 2021, 09:13:39 AM »
How many Clubjazz members know that the Honda sell 5 million SuperCub motorcycles per annum?

Production numbers surpassed 100 million several years ago.

I have the recent 125 cc model introduced to the UK in 2019.
.
The SuperCub has not stood still, the SuperCub  has fuel injection, ABS braking, and LED lighting.

The 125 cc air-cooled  single-cylinder engine returns 190 mpg on long journeys

How many Clubjazz members have owned a SuperCub in any of the engine sizes, 50 ccs to 125ccs?

Please share your SuperCub stories or memories  here?

I bought a C90 back in 1971. I was rubbish with bent forks. I stripped it down, got the forks repaired and it lay in the garage minus the engine and gearbox. They were in a box in my kitchen and for about 18 months my wife had to slide the box about the kitchen floor depending on what cupboard/fridge/oven she needed in. Eventually, I gave it to a young lad who hung around my garage whenever I was working on something. He wanted to be a mechanic. Give him his due, he got it going. Never went back on the road but covered a few miles at the local bing.

My dad bought one of the first "nifty thrifty Honda 50's" to come into the country. I can remember going down to Devon on the back from the Midlands.
A great improvement on his NSU quickly.

I had two C70s between 1975 and 1980, the abuse those little engines could take, it is said that Honda will test an engine by taking one at random and running it flat out on a dyno rig for 1000 hours. They do not break!

I had a C70 and a C90 which were both great machines, my Dad also had a 50cc Honda Moped which my sister used for some time and I also later used to go to work on. At least Honda used 4 stroke engines, so much better than 2 stroke engines. One of our neighbours where we lived until 2 years ago was still using a C series bike as his daily transport, I think it was a C90, he is probably still using it.

I also rescued a Honda Melody 50cc moped from a workmate. It was a two-stroke which was its downfall as the metalwork between the oil and the fuel ended up porous (rust) and the two would mix when you didn't want them to.
We had great fun down the park where my nine-year-old son learned to ride it. As did aunties and uncles and anyone else that fancied a shot.

After the nuclear holocaust there will be cockroaches and Honda Cub engines.

I've never owned one but have worked on them, brilliant bits of engineering. I was tempted by the "new" Cub but ended up elsewhere .....................

I was with a group that took a bunch of C90s overland to the Gambia 7 years ago. They're used for medical outreach work.  For good reason.

Ironically, mine broke down in Soton just before the ferry! Some eejit (not this eejit) had left a screw in the inlet tract!  I was an eejit for not thoroughly checking the bike before the trip.  :-[

In which part of the inlet was the rogue screw left?
Air filter to carburettor mouth, or the carburettor exit to intake valve?
Did the screw enter the cylinder , or did the screw jam the carburettor throttle side?

Hilux,  if Carlesberg made pickup trucks they would make that one.

My brothers mate had a 'Honda 50 or 90' when they were about 15 ( over the fields around where he lived ) and he could not destroy it,  including revving it up and banging it into gear more times than you have had hot dinners....
