Unknown Dashboard Symbol?!
« on: January 07, 2024, 12:31:06 PM »
Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the the following symbol means:

(White circle icon - 2 cars next to each other - diagonal line across the middle.)

It came on when I started the car this morning and was visible for about 5 minutes.
I can't see it in the manual or searching online.

My guess is the traffic sign recognition system picking up this :

Yes Kremmen, that's was it in white.

At least it's nothing I need to worry about, was just concerned as hadn't seen it before and couldn't find it in the manual.

Thanks again!

The odd thing here is that I don't  think that's a UK road sign. Without the diagonal, and with the RH car in red (appears white on the car's monochrome display) it would mean "No overtaking". So logically a similar sign with a diagonal through it would denote the end of the no-overtaking zone. But I don't think we have such a sign in the UK, although other countries might. I suspect this is something loaded in the car's traffic sign database for other countries, and it really shouldn't appear on a UK car. But it does (I've seen it as well) and it's not clear what the camera has picked up.

Yes Colin, you are right.
The line is the other way so relates to UK.

It's very odd as there is no sign of such by mine and I'm parked facing the house.

I'll just put it down to a random glitch  :)

My traffic recognition sometimes  displays signs that are definitely not there to be read.    Things like 30 kph with little snow symbols underneath  . There is no sign up in the summer  (I've  been back and checked).  Also some speed limits with a small plate giving limited times is displayed with a clock. Can it really read the presence of such a small plate?
I think the car must have  some signs recorded on its database by their  gps location rather than actually detecting them.  . I have not noticed this in the UK, only in mainland Europe  but maybe UK cars also have pre programmed data that might inexplicably appear.

I wonder if it's picking up some signs from the rear of lorries or other vehicles

Some have warnings about maximum speed for example

@Kremmen
It was between Hendon Central and Finchley Rd!

I frequently pick up speed limits that are obviously not appropriate to the road being driven; suspect they actually apply to service roads.

Do you mean you actually saw this sign at the side of the road, or do you mean the car displayed this symbol? The former seems unlikely because UK has no such roadsign, at least not officially. The latter would be consistent with what I have seen and what I think Annastesia reported, ie that the car's camera has spotted something that it has interpreted as a roadsign and has incorrectly displayed the closest match it has in it's library of roadsigns which happens to be a non-UK sign.

Look at the picture again:

Trees in the background, subtext signs, it seems highly unlikely to me that you would see such a 'symbol' on the display... ;D

I thought HertsHonda was referring to the symbol suggested in reply #1, ie the one that seems to be a non-UK "end of no overtaking" sign. That does not - to me, anyway - resemble the truck restriction signs. So I'm interested in whether the one in reply #1 was actually seen as a physical sign, or just on the car's dashboard display.
