I'd go for the Insight every time, back when both were outside dealers drive both.
The A2 poor ride disagreeable salesman and not a diesel fan. The Honda went well unsure of the styling but the ride and controls suited us.
At the time  had company Volvo 940 23 mpg and when  I retired in 2000 bought another Subaru
