Fluid leaking onto door sill.
« on: April 11, 2021, 12:07:02 PM »
Hello,
I have a small leak which I thought was coming from the underside of the car, just underneath the opening of the driver's side door. On further inspection, it seems to be coming from the sill almost underneath the drivers seat. It looks to be clearish but greasy.  I have tried in vain to post a photograph but no success. Does anyone have an idea what this might be ?  Many thanks.

My sills are usually wet in places after rain, as long as it doesn't get past the seal into the car I don't think it's a problem.
You may have already had a bit of grease on the sill, try wiping it off and see if it comes back.
It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

Water dripping from the drain holes in the door?

I have wiped it of a few times but it keeps coming back.  :( There is a raised bit (carpeted, centre of the photo) approx 1" high that runs under the seat,  whatever that is, maybe it comes from there.  This liquid is on the rubber seal and on the door sill.

I'm sure it's not water, it's greasy.  :(

Might also be running around the door seal, dropping off at the lowest point? I don't think anything will be coming out of the sill, it's just a spot welded seam with the door rubber knocked onto it.

Is the car new to you? Maybe the door rubbers have been siliconed and rain is washing it out, or maybe wax residue?

After market rust treatment in door bottoms using wax based material?

I think I might have solved it. I have a habit of spraying odour eliminator quit liberally in the car. it could be that. :-[
I'll stop using it for a few days and see what happens. ;)
Thanks everyone for helping, I was worried it might be something serious.  Fingers crossed.  :D

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
