If money were no object........
« on: January 13, 2021, 10:30:10 AM »
A bit of fun. What would your dream car be?   ;D

Couple of rules:
1) Got to be <£100,000
2) Only allowed one car!
3) It's your spare car, doesn't have to be your daily driver.
4) Spares, rust and maintenance are not problems.

I'll start the ball rolling. Id like a 1973 Citroen SM in beige metallic with black leather and a manual gearbox.  8)

I'd like to have 80's Chevy/GMC Van G20 Shorty 9-seater upgraded with 5,3 liter L59 flexfuel V8 engine and 4L80E transmission. Colour unlike the picture mulsanne blue metallic exterior and dark blue interior.

That is really an extraordinary car in many ways! I would love to drive that car for few days.

I'd probably just plump for a top of the range Lexus saloon, not a SUV.
Let's be careful out there !

I'd like my last to be built Mark 4 (?) Triumph Spitfire back with all the problems fixed, a hardtop, modern braking and tyres with ABS.

Tempting as your Citroën SM is Westy36 it would have to be a DS for me. Though I can't decide between the saloon for the pure style, or a Safari to go touring with the dog and a substantial picnic...

An elegant choice! I see from you sample pictures, that you'd prefer the later facelifted models with streamlined headlights. What would be your preferred engine and transmission? 2.3 litre fuel injection maybe? Manual or autromatic?

I don't know how you guys can pick just one car, I find it really difficult.

There are cars I've owned and would have back again, cars I've always fancied but never owned, and a few that I could probably never own. The Citroen DS is a real tempter, and Jocko's Austin 16 is a pearl, but I would have to give this some real thought.

I fancied a Citroen C6 after having the XM, but you could easily go out and buy one now and run it, so hardly fantasy stuff.

It is indeed very difficult to pick just one car. And even harder if you start to think it any longer. I picked up the one, that I've been thinking most in recent times. It could also have been this one:

That's a better photo, but I'm afraid Mercs do absolutely nothing for me!

Father-in-law was obsessed with them at one point, must have had half a dozen different ones - I never liked any of them.

I don't know, I think that Merc has a kind of Saville Row elegance.

Sorry TnTkr I just picked the colour. Manual though, that era of automatic seems too disconnected to me. Unless I blew some of my hundred grand converting it to electric...

Not everybody likes the same cars  :) We've noticed with my brother, that the overall feeling of the car may be very different in different car brands and that divides opinions. He likes Volvos but not Mercs, I like more Mercs and don't feel home in Volvo. That became again obvious when I bought an old Mercedes light truck and like a lot to drive it. We both have long history of 60's-80's Opels.

Despite being 6 foot and not that light either, I have never really got on with big cars. My dream car would be a Porsche 911 Turbo as a fun car.
