Roof bars spacing
« on: June 01, 2020, 12:46:58 AM »
I bought Thule Wingbars Evo, which I'm very satisfied : nice looking, no more noise than without.
But I find the spacing too low : 70 cm between front and rear bar, the front at 31 cm of the windshield, as specified buy the Thule manual.

Would it be dangerous to space them a little more ? I could place the front bar nearer the windshield and move back the rear bar a little. Is there a risk for the car's roof, or for the bars ?

I'll use them mainly for carrying a Stand Up Paddle that is 3,81 m long.

Possibly not! This forum tends to be dominated by UK owners, and in the UK the Jazz is seen as an older person's car (apologies for alienating any owners under the age of 60, no insult intended). No idea why this should be, it's always seemed to me a perfectly good car for any age group, but unfortunately it's acquired the image that it's the car you buy when you retire. And retired people don't tend to load up roof racks. You might have better luck over on the FitFreak forum: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/, in the US the car doesn't seem to have the image problem that it has in the UK. A quick search suggests several threads about roof racks, but I don't know if they answer your particular question. Good luck!

I have the Honda roof bars.
The honda recommended spacing is marked on the top of the door frame under the door seal
This may be different from the Thule recommendation

thanks for the tip of the fitfreak forum, I'll get an eye there !
I'm not retired, only 49...
Perhaps there's no need for roof bars in UK, because they don't paddle on summer and don't ski on winter,
I live in France...

My bars, the Honda ones fitted by a Honda garage are approximately 50cm from the front windscreen to the front bar and 67.5cm between the centres of the bars.

ok I've seen the marks today : small arrows. That's worse than Thule settings, the front arrow is further the windshield and the rear is before the rear bar from Thule, so the spacing is smaller.
