1.3 or 1.4?
« on: August 11, 2014, 01:00:18 AM »
Why is the jazz referred to as a 1.4 when it's 1339cc making it technically a 1.3?

Marketing, I suppose. Puts more of a difference between the 1.2?

I think it's just some rule or convention about rounding up to the nearest 0.1L rather than rounding down.

you round up to the nearest litre.
eg a 1349cc would be a 1.3 and a 1351cc would be a 1.4 although in saying that my M5 is a 4.9 but everyone calls them a 5.0

How comes 1339cc is considered a 1.4 then?  ???

It's called marketing.

BMW sold a 316i with a 1.8 litre engine...

Bingo. The 1339cc is marketed as a 1.3 in some markets, 1.4 in the UK. It depends what other models are on offer.

The 1.2, at 1246 cc, is actually closer to being a 1.3 than the 1339 cc engine is to being a 1.4!
