Mk1/Mk2, GD/GE explained.
« on: May 31, 2010, 09:17:31 PM »
This is a quick guide to the different generations of Honda Jazz.

Firstly, the Honda Jazz is sold as the Honda Fit in some countries including Japan, United States and Canada. It is essentially the same car with minor differences to suit local tastes and regulations.

In order to maintain consistency with other Honda Jazz/Fit forums and owners' clubs across the world, we consider the 2002-2008 Honda Jazz as the first generation Honda Jazz and we ignore any other Honda models that have used the Jazz name prior to 2002. These include the 1984-86 Honda Jazz/City and the Japanese market Honda Jazz from the 90s that is in actual fact a rebadged Vauxhall Frontera (!)

Honda Jazz Mk1 (“GD”)
2002 to 2008
1.2 or 1.4-litre i-DSi 8 valve engines
Manual or CVT gearbox

Honda Jazz Mk2 (“GE”)
2008-2015
1.2 or 1.4-litre i-VTEC 16 valve engines or 1.3-litres petrol/electric hybrid.
Manual, i-SHIFT ('08 to '11) or CVT ('11-on) gearbox.

Honda Jazz Mk3 ("GK")
2015-on
1.3-litre 16 valve engine, manual or CVT transmission.

Hi RichardA
I’m new to the group and own a 2008 jazz 1.4 petrol ES model. Just to pick your brains on my V5 the car is registered in Oct 2008. And the Vin No starts JHM GE6 76 09 …..
From this vin no section I have been able to establish my car is made in Japan, GE6 is the model no, and 09 is when the car was registered.
So, would my car be a 2009 car , and a mk3? I’ve not yet found the true answer, can you help ?
Also when comparing my rear lights combination, this is different to 2008 models .

GE6 must be a mk2. The VIN is always right. Mk3 was produced years later.
It might be that the light units were changed for aftermarket ones, which might look slightly different?
