...Why would switching to D help?

Good point! Switching the ECON off was the main thing in terms of unleashing extra power.

And don’t forget to turn off the air con, for a further 500 BHP!

I can’t perceive any difference between B and D mode or eco or not when you foot to the floor on the accelerator. Too busy concentrating on how fast the speed is building up!
Under part throttle eco and normal mode gives differences

It doesn't make any difference. But since none of this was relevant anyway... ;D

Switching off the air con will not unleash any more power as it is not driven by the engine.  As far as I am aware it is powered from the hybrid battery, so the engine may fire up a bit more frequently to recharge the HB, and I think the ventilation fan is powered by the 12v battery.

Yes I understood eco was disabled when you floor it because it could be an emergency to get out of trouble as fast as possible.

Late to the party on this one, but I've just got an Advance Sport and discovered that the paddles can be used to modulate regen strength in B mode. Quite a useful feature I think.

I haven't tried the paddles on the open road in D mode yet, but I imagine they could be handy to regulate deceleration and avoid using the brakes too much.

Flappy paddles, as I have said in an earlier post, are apparently revered in the Asian market and that is where the feature is aimed, subsequently Jazz Hybrid Sport models arrive in the UK as is.  So it appears they are a marketing item rather than being something very useful for the average bloke, or sheila – please note the equality/inclusivity.  If you find yourself on a race track I guess that is where they will be really useful.

As for me using them on a day to day basis, I do occasionally, because there are a few hills where I live with a 20mph limit and they are useful for getting the descent rate perfect and harvest some energy to go up the other side.  It just gives me more fine adjustment over the B mode selection.  They don’t get in the way and are just there if I want to use them.

As for B & D it is either Black and Decker, Bondage and Discipline, or Brake and Drive.  Your choice.  As for driving around in B mode I gather it will do no harm but for me I maintain it is just another control (a brake is a control) for the car and I use it selectively and don’t get obsessed with the regenerative aspect.

I say that because using D mode and slowing the car it will take a certain time/distance to slow to the point you want it to.  Using B mode permanently merely shortens that slowing time/distance so you have to commence slowing later to reach the same point you want to.  I see no reason that the regenerative aspect will be different, and indeed will be equal in both cases.

So the choice is long and smooth deceleration or a slightly more shorter and harder slowing down.  I go for the longer slow down because I see no difference as to energy harvesting, it is better for passenger comfort, and it also stops me shortening any braking too late to err on the side of safety.

It's not really as simple as that. Stop start in the city will get more braking in B than paddles, B will give higher voltage regen since friction brakes will need to be used much less. On a long mainly constant speed trips it will make no meaningful difference. I have paddles on the E with a comprehensive regen display, and hardly use the paddles at all in city driving since the relatively slow braking and constant switching does not achieve much overall efficiency at the end of the trip. And every time you touch the brakes the paddles go back to minimal braking and you start swtching all over again. Each to his own - it's personal preference at the end of the day.
