Power steering issues
« on: November 16, 2024, 11:07:30 AM »
Hey all,

I have power steering issue I wish someone could help me with!

I’ve got a 2003 Jazz manual, just under 40k miles.

This Monday the flat battery was flat after it had been standing for 2 months.

I got it jump started and drove around for a bit, everything was fine. Next couple of days it started fine.

Yesterday the battery was flat again, I got help to jump start it again, but now the power steering does work at all…

I put in a new battery, but still no power steering.

I went to a garage to get it diagnosed, there are no issues at all.

They checked all the fuses, they are also all fine.

Everything else works fine on the car.

The only thing they could find is that there’s no current going to the power steering motor.

Could anyone knowledgeable advice me on this?

Many thanks!

That's the issue then. I would speak to garage again and ask them why that is happening? Some garages are not great at electrical stuff, so you may well be best searching for a local auto electician.

I'd double check the power steering fuse hasnt blown .  Its a 40 amp "JCASE" cartridge type fuse   and I think the car only has one of this type. (They are more resistant to power fluctuations etc)    The garage may  have checked the numerous blade fuses but missed this unusual  one.      It looks like a little green cube with a clear plastic cover.  Unfortunately they cost  cost £3 -£5 each rather than the few pence for the blade types.
