Seems like they combine polarisation and photochromic properties, which sounds good. The downside (there's always one) is that they shouldn't be used at night because of the permanent tint.

The driver display with speedo, etc, was fine but the central infotainment wasn't as clear

I had a polychromatic one: it is useless in a car. Now I have a polarized one which is very good when looking out of the window, but screens and buttons are more difficult to see. It takes any glare away, which is really good (and safe).
I’m very sensitive to glare, if I wasn’t I would prefer a normal tinted pair of glasses.

Using my Polaroid glasses, I paid extra attention to what I do and do not see clearly:
- central screen perfect
- screen right in front perfect
- all lit items (buttons etc.) good
- temperature adjust knob poor

That last one has a good work-around: also the center screen shows temperature when you turn the knob.
So Mk4 (and Civic ehev) are quite a good combination with Polaroids

I have no problem using polarised sunglasses in my Mk 4. 
The windscreen and door windows are clear of any 'tension' banding effects.  There is a little bit on the rear window when using the interior mirror but not enough to affect vision and the same on the front quarterlight windows, which I seldom look through anyway.

Digital driver display screen  fine, 9" touch screen fine .But the illuminated temperature and air distribution numbers and symbols which are normally white light  become a varying  spectrum of colours including quite dark blue.  But its still  visible, even allowing for some slight blurring, due to  me being a bit far sighted when glancing down from driving distance vision to a close up display.
