With all these seemingly bizarre regulations I'm glad I've enjoyed over 50 years of hassle free motoring and that my current Jazz is my last car

Fortunately I can turn RDMS off and none of the other 'aids' have ever cut in

I could understand if the speed alarm was xx + a % but I've read quite a few posts where it cuts in at exactly the speed shown which is not your true speed

The only ‘safety measure’ that I turn off is RDMS, why, because I consider it to be downright DANGEROUS!!

Much of my local motoring is along narrow country lanes. Which requires me to pull in very close to the verge and slow down in order to pass safely, cars coming the other way.
When I do pull in close, RDMS immediately tries to steer me away from verge, and INTO the path of the oncoming car???

The system may well be fine, on main roads or motorways etc, but No, not for me, I prefer to be in full control at all times.

I never switch RDMS off and I too have to negotiate narrow lanes near where I live but I don't seem to get the same issues, it may object occasionally when not required but I never feel there is a safety risk, sometimes I am glad it has intervened when my attention has wandered.

I know what I'm doing and there are many instances where indicating is not necessary

It's been a long time since I passed my advanced driving test but at that time unnecessary and/or misleading indicating would have been a fail

When that happens I object to the orange warning and steering wheel wobble

"Custom software" would be the best solution for all these problems. Including the ability to install apps (e.g. different navigation).

But is something like that even possible? I'm very worried that it's not...

Steering a smooth line is what upsets RDMS. Make a sudden jerk of the steering wheel to cross the white line and it will be happy. That's the underlying problem with RDMS - it can't tell the difference between a driver trying to steer a smooth line and a driver who might be dead. Aren't there less disruptive ways of checking on the driver?

Car manufacturers are now bringing out models where such  inbuilt 'supposed' safety features and controls can be switched off

Cheeto, you are correct on that point. My new Renault Captur has that facility. In the software you can turn off up to five “aids” and there is a switch on the dash to turn them on or off. One thing I actually don’t turn off is the over speed one. At 2 mph over the limit it gives a quick “tick,tick” sound and again if you don’t slow quick enough but then doesn’t do it again.  Not intrusive at all. Also as the lane keeping stuff is a lot gentler than the Jazz was,so actually rarely turn the stuff.
