Title: Advice for new owner please.
Post by: Toptek on August 15, 2020, 02:34:56 PM
Hi,
Bought a 2019 EX NAVI and drove it home yesterday. The rep asked if I had any questions, I looked at some of the buttons asked a few questions and said I will be in touch if not sure of anything. Well, coming from a 2003 CRV there’s a lot of things plus a 600 page manual  :o
Before I start delving too deep into the settings, are there some things I should be looking at setting from the start?
Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks

Welcome to the forum.
I was told not to alter all the settings on the drive for any length of time without the engine running as I would soon have a flat battery.
Apparently most of the breakdowns in the first couple of weeks are for flat batteries.

Might be a good idea to look at how to reset the tyre pressure monitor as the first time I went on the motorway the tyre pressure warning light came on.

Other than the tyre pressure monitor, it may be as well to do nothing. Then, when you think "How do I do that?", get the manual out. I find it easier only to assimilate what you need at the beginning. Unless of course, you are nineteen.

Thanks for the prompt replies.
Just back from pottering around our local learner driver routes with my wife to get used to it. It’s so much lighter to drive which is a bonus for my wife due to her ailments.
Is it normal for the ventilation vent output setting not be adjustable in auto, as it was indicating directly horizontal, rather than adjusting to the differing vent locations? If I adjusted the output, it just went into manual ac mode. Also, the recirculate or fresh alternated.... All this technology..
Left the engine running whilst cleared the sat nav location history and paired the phones.

Just enjoy your new Jazz it is a cracking little/big car as Jocko says gently does it a little and not too often is a good rule.
it is a huge manual not exactly bedtime reading but will tell you all the  things that you are required to know, however not  particularly easily it will take a fair bit of getting used to.
There is a vast amount of very knowledgable and helpful chaps here on the forum who I am sure will give advice. If required.

As I park outside, I needed to find out quite soon how to arrange for the headlights to turn off when I parked at night.  Otherwise I was hanging around to make sure they went out.  However, some delay might be useful if you garage the car.

Give the left stalk a twist towards you and let it return. The headlight symbol will extinguish, as will the headlights themselves.

When in auto the computer takes control of everything except the temperature, as you found any manual adjustment knocks it out of auto.  I run mine in manual as I don't like the auto settings chosen for air flow and fan speed but the temperature is still auto selectable. If in auto the computer will select recirculating air if the interior is very hot.

Yes, but this step can be eliminated by resetting the delay time to zero.

Cars are getting like smartphones, thousands of apps and settings and most people only use a few, the others just clog the system up and make it more complicated...

Really? I have to try this once again as I think I set it to zero but it still leaves the lights on when switchng off ignition.

Seen a few Youtube videos on the Honda E and even the favourable ones mention tech overload. I think we are indeed at a stage where you have to take a decision on which bits of tech to ignore. Park assist is crap on most cars apparently (don't know, never had a car with it).

I have Park Assist in my car and I have tried it once to see if it worked. It did work although I would have liked to have been a bit closer to the kerb.  Actually it is rare the I parallel park these days.  I park on my drive and if I am out I usually go to a car park and drive or reverse into a space.

Double yellows springing up around by us to discourage parking on the road,  which is where you need parallel park most often - personally never had any problem with parallel parking.   I always try to revers into parking spaces as well,  a lot of shunts happen when people trying to reverse out of spots and can't see what is coming and a lot of people drive way too fast on carparks.... and even when they see reversing lights on will try to squeeze through.

This is where the rear view camera comes into its own.  With it set on wide (or panoramic) view, you can actually see more reversing out than you can driving out.  And I do totally agree that people drive too fast and don't give way to cars coming out of spaces.  It's the "It's my right of way" syndrome.

The Honda-e interior mirror is also a rearview screen for the camera. Switches between mirror and screen mode, as you require and shows a wide-angle view in reverse, I believe.

In my Jazz, if it is dark outside, the lights will stay on even when the ignition is off even if delay time is set to zero. I didn't check for how long. They do switch off if the car is locked, but that doesn't help as I never lock the doors at home. So I have to twist the switch to get lights off when I stop the car.
