Title: TYRE PRESSURE
Post by: KayH on September 16, 2021, 12:25:41 PM
I have just bought a Jazz 61 plate and think I'm going to love it.  The tyres on it are size 195/55R 16, ie not mentioned in the handbook.  Will someone please tell me what the pressures should be ?
Also the tether on the petrol cap is broken - has anyone got a fix ?

When you open the driver's door, there should be a sticker or plaque on the forward facing side of the door pillar. (The B pillar, not the one nearer the windscreen.)  It should give the tyre pressures.

They are probably 30 PSI rear, 32 PSI front.

However, some advocate using 34 PSI in front because of the the tendency for the Jazz to wear the edges of the front tyres with 16 inch wheels.

Sorry, I can't help with the petrol cap.  Perhaps someone else has an answer.

Petrol cap tether. Mine broke so I replaced it with a length of nylon cord. No problems.

Vic.

Tether is part of the cap, so it would be a new cap. Genuine part number is 17670-SJA-013

I have 185/55 r16’s and have f33 r31 psi for mine.

Door plaque recommends f32 r30 psi.

The tether on my Mk2 broke after about 5 years. I never lost the cap in the 12 years I had the car.

I just have 30 rear 32 psi front, check regular and inflate if needed. Touch wood never had a problem and TPMS stays off.

These tyres mean that your overall wheel and tyre diameter is slightly larger than standard (1-2%?) resulting in a slight under-recording of distance travelled and speed.  However, speedometers are always designed to over-read, so I don’t suppose it’s a problem!

Remember to set the TPMS to recalibrate after any adjustment of tyre pressures.

On a 61 plate, isn't it a Mk2 Jazz?

Based purely on the replies so far (I haven't looked for Mk2 information), it would appear you should have 185/55 R16 tyres fitted. Tyre pressures for the correct size tyre will be on the door sticker and owners manual.

Using the above assumption and on a slight tangent, I would be slightly concerned that your car is effectively 'modified' and those tyres should be declared to your insurance company.
