Shell fuel saver vs V power
« on: July 28, 2010, 07:19:21 AM »
Any one tried the new Shell fuel saver petrol?  How does it rate compared to other petrol and Shell's own V Power?

Thought about doing the same but we only just filled up.  I have been using the V Power for a while after the reports on these forums.

Hi there

I've only had my Jazz for 2 weeks so difficult to assess what is typical mileage at the moment.
My first week, I filled up with Tesco fuel, this week I have used Shell fuel saver and it already seems to be getting more miles :-)

I usually use BP petrol but when I get a 5p a litre off voucher from Tesco shopping I am tempted to fill up on Tesco petrol. What a huge difference. It goes ok on Tesco petrol but feels dull and lifeless to drive. When I change back to BP the difference is amazing, suddenly I have a car full of life and really fun to drive. Having said that my local Honda which is right opposite a Tesco garage say they always use Tesco petrol and never notice any difference! Perhaps if they used something else they may sell even more cars!!

Just filled up Fuel saver for the first time at lunch time so will be interesting to see what results I get.

I managed 265miles (mainly town driving) before the fuel light came on but as mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I seem to have a heavy right foot  :o

My actual mpg the last 4-5 tanks were 35-38mpg; last tank was 36mpg with the car computer saying 40.4mpg

Don't ever be tempted to use supermarket petrol in your Jazz!

My wife used to use it and her Jazz always felt sluggish compared with mine, I got her into the habit of using 'normal' fuel and not only is it a lot livelier, but does more mpg so more than makes up for the 5p per gallon off offered by Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. (and no danger of silicon in the fuel wrecking your Lambda sensor).

Shell 'V' power or BP Ultimate (97 RON) get even better mpg, but getting pricey now
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

I've noticed the banners advertising it at Shell garages. I know Shell at the Trident Honda garage at Ottershaw have it. I'll give it try later this week and let you know.

I been using this new Shell fuelsave and I can definitely say it works in that my mpg has gone up and also the engine feels more responsive.

Since from new I have been using just supermarket fuel and never got more than 42mpg regardless of how I drove.

Today the mpg showed 48 so we are heading in the right direction.

Thanks for all the replies.
In the past i have found the vpower to be better than the normal shell petrol and worth the extra 7p a litre.  What i wanted to find out was if this was still the case.

Thank you.

My first tank of Fuel Saver got me 37.34mpg(actual) compared to the on board computer of 41. something.

Currently only have to fill up once every 3-4 weeks (which I guess is one of the main reason why I changed to the Jazz) so will take me a couple of weeks/months to get a true figure on what I'm achieving.

43.46 (actual- wohoo made over the 40 mark lol) / 45.9 (car)

Guess it could be a combination of the K&N filter and me doing more motorway miles due to my new job but chuffed getting over the 40mpg mark  ;D
