Insurance renewal
« on: March 04, 2021, 07:33:53 PM »
Just had my insurance renewal documents arrive and are somewhat staggered by the bottom line,  a couple of quid short of £600.
OK, so I'm the wrong side of 80, but have a good driving record, with max no-claim bonus, gone up by 13.6% since last year. Even got dash-cams front & rear.

Having said all that, I've tried various on-line comparison sites, but only one company (LV), could improve by just a few pounds on my existing figure. Tried Adrian Flux, no better!

Just out of interest, what are others members paying for a Jazz EX CVT 19 plate, fully comp, protected no-claim, courtesy car etc?

That's getting a bit stiff.

Can't really help, apart from adding that Hastings is by far the cheapest for my Dad's Astra. He's 87 this year.

Good luck, hope you can find something cheaper.

Tried Hastings Direct, even worse at £955.

To cross reference, try calling a local insurance broker for a quote. Many on Yell.com.

eg Fairweather Insurance in Chalfont St Peter Gerrards Cross 01753 882222 (who I think are near you?).

You may get a better price with a Lloyds policy rather than online.

This is an ongoing problem.

They put your details into their 'model' and look forward at your claim likelihood based on average and forget all about your history.

Let's be careful out there !

Try phoning The NFU Mutual Insurance Society Limited. They are not available online, but I have heard good things about them.

Unfortunately NFU don't insure all areas. My current area they won't cover but hopefully in the next couple of years I'm looking to move.

From the enormity of your quotes, and the fact that an insurer won't cover your area, it is beginning to sound like you live in Beirut!

West London, just north of Heathrow in a UB postcode is a medium/high risk area. I've never claimed, car is garaged, but that doesn't matter

A broker friend did some comparisons on my car in his package. The best he can do is circa £600 but if I move out to a Reading suburb, near the daughter, and is on the cards, he can do me for £250.

Hi Jocko
My renewal quote IS from NFU, been with them for many years, maybe that’s the problem?

Saga used to be great for more mature drivers. Ageco are also worth a spin.

Some points worth considering if you haven't already:
If you dont already, put a named driver on the policy. Can ofter reduce the premium.
If you have any driver, reduce it to named drivers.
Check the mileage declared is accurate, don't over estimate.
Excess - could be worth taking on a little higher to reduce the quote.
Protected NCB - are you sure you want this? Never had it in 30yrs.

Saga turned out to be even worse at circa £960
I already include 2 named drivers (my Daughter & Husband), both with good driving records.
Mileage is given as 10K which I guess may be a little high in the present climate, could reduce it to maybe 7 or 8k.
Excess is £250
As Kremmen has said, I live in Solihull, West Midlands, but have a (B) Birmingham post code, which i guess may be a reason for the high costs.
