I've had zero problems with DPD. I'm sure that the system works out the driver's optimum route and they are expected to follow it.

Round here, DPD are the absolute best. I have had the driver wait until the time before he would knock on the door.
I have had that happen. The driver said that the system wouldn't let him register the delivery before the start of the time slot. I would have thought that this would also apply to logging a missed delivery.

Are you sure that it was DPD? Their system will not allow drivers to make early deliveries.

With the failed delivery, did you get a non delivery card? If not, I suspect no attempt to deliver was ever made.
Yes it was DPD. They put a card through the door and posted a photo of my front door on the tracking page.

With regards to the failed delivery, there was no card, and like you, I suspect the driver never even attempted to deliver.

I also had three large bags of Cat Litter left in the street at the outside door to the block of flats. I received a delivery notification with a photograph and had to hump 3 cwt of Litter up 48 stairs, a disabled OAP.
When I order Cat Litter the drivers ding the deliveries until I complain to the vendor and they get on the case.

IMHO DPD are NBG.

Many delivery services,  including supermarkets and Royal mail, and non specialist ( those that do not specifically accept heavy delivery ) couriers have policies to only deliver to main entrances of multi-story buildings - especially when no lift is available.  It is probably at the drivers discretion whether they will deliver to a flat, depending on their own health and their workload.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Things just got worse. I received a text to say delivery would happen between 09:37 and 10:37. We were going to be out, but I had arranged for the parcel to be left at the door. As we were leaving the DPD van, with a different driver arrived so I nobbled him. Despite knowing me well he wouldn't give me the parcel so I had to follow him up to the flat. He then insisted I open the door so he could take a photo. When I pointed out that it was to left at the door anyway he said he was instructed not to do that. I still think DPD is the worst courier service out there.

Ordered an Item from John Lewis on Friday, for delivery yesterday (Monday),  by DPD
Had a text from DPD yesterday morning, giving a delivery slot of 10.56-11.56.
Actually delivered 11.10, so can't complain about that.

My wife ordered her usual delivery of grasses and hay for our Guinea Pig herd yesterday morning. Delivered from Devon to us this lunchtime in Yorkshire by DPD. The driver asked me where I wanted the box, which was quite large. He had it at the front door and I asked if he could put it in front of the garage door so that I could decant it into there and put the cardboard in my car ready for a trip to recycling.

I think DPD are amazing and they have some great drivers. There are always some that are not so great or are having a bad day. That is why I always give feedback, when they're good and when they're bad, of offered the chance. Otherwise, how can they improve?

Must be the English drivers that are good. I'll be moving in a couple of weeks so I may be lucky with the drivers where I am going.

The move is a nightmare. Mother-in-law died and we are moving into the family home. So we have a house to clear before we move and as we live in a furnished flat, some furniture to buy (Mum's bed was from the 1960s).
I have a collection of guitars I cannot take with me (no room) so I am having to give them away (family).
We are moving to the southern edge of Edinburgh.

Regarding the original thread, today we had two deliveries from Yodel and Hermes. They were both when previously notified and the couriers (three in total) were excellent. Perhaps DPD will be the same where we are going to.  :)

Order for CVT fluid placed with Cox Motors at 14.40 yesterday - delivered by DPD 07.40 today. Morecombe to Stroud 200 miles. And I saved £20 on price quoted by nearest Honda dealership!

Devils advocate time. I dont think you can criticise any one company.  In some areas it must be quite difficult recruiting enough reliable drivers. And maybe some take on more business than they can handle at times.   Some companies utilise part time drivers moonlighting in their own small cars .

We all want cheap delivery costs  but the reality is bringing something to your door takes time and paying someone to do it costs money.  Plus all the behind the scenes sorting, depot transfer deliveries  etc.  I think I read that in some locations the drivers schedule requires them to make  a delivery on average once every 3 minutes,or less  including travelling time etc.   In a past job I sometimes had to knock on doors and wait for someone to answer.   They sometimes take ages to answer the door  ,even if they are in, and if they are out ,how long should you wait? And climbing to high rise flats and certain pedestrianised housing schemes?    I have sympathy for drivers  under pressure to make deliveries and keep their job who perhaps dont wait as long as they should . I suspect the courier companies  can spot from algorithms those lazy drivers who have more than their fair share of 'failed' deliveries. Some will get fired, but it may depend on how easy it is to replace them .

I quite often answer the door almost immediately (I think) only to find the courier has already left. Usually the parcel has been left on the doorstep (a reasonable option at my house  -its reasonably sheltered and secluded)
On the whole I am happy with most of them, considering how relatively cheap  delivery can be. (To send stuff )  I have had  'free standard delivery' parcels that I  ordered late afternoon  that arrived early next morning.
If you look at reviews for any company of course you will see complaints. Few people take the trouble to give good reviews, and I tend to be suspicious whether glowing reviews are  genuine.

I believe it was Dominos pizza who  recently advertised a wonderful new fangled idea  to save on the cost of living.   collect your own pizza  ;D  I have never had a takeaway delivered.    Maybe this is the next logical step. Parcels delivered to a local shop. You get an email and can collect it yourself ( such schemes already exist)   or arrange an immediate delivery by a takeaway food  courier.  Some folk can afford such decadent   luxury.  Assuming of course the takeaway rider also delivers properly and doesnt expect a tip.

I used to live on a corner and from that corner the delivery drivers could see 2 number 5's

Amazon were the worst with 50% or them delivered to the wrong one and the other No 5, they went on holiday twice a year for 3 months. After many refunds I would only order if it went to an Amazon Hub Locker.

DPD are OK recently as you get a tracking number, or I did for recent Samsung products. I got an hour's slot and they stuck to it.

Yodel used to be the pits so they changed their name.
Let's be careful out there !

Agree with this

EVRI (Hermes) OK for delivery but impossible to send parcel via website, just stops before payment

Yodel are still Yodel. I find them great. Our courier, James, delivers in his own car and always waits until you answer then hands you the parcel before taking a photo.

I've found EVRI to be OK for 11 months of the year but erratic in the month before Christmas.
