Hello from Lincolnshire
« on: January 26, 2021, 08:40:54 AM »
Hello all.

I've been lurking on here for some time so thought it was about time I joined.

Firstly, thank you to some of the posters on here, some of the information I've found has been very useful.

I'm running a Mk3 SE, mainly as a daily workhouse. It gets looked after as I'm interested in cars and gets used for most things including fishing, which I'm getting back into.

I like my cars and have my 'boys toy' tucked away in the garage for sunny days and more enthusiastic driving.

Ciao for now.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Jocko - the boy's toy is a BMW 1 Series M Coupe, or 1M as it's more affectionately known. It's essentially a 3 litre twin turbo straight six, in a 1 series coupe body with some M3 running gear bolted on. It was built by BMW Engineers as a bit of a 'skunkworks' project behind the 'bean counters' backs. Only made for one year and only 450 came to the UK.

I love it.

Nice machine. I can understand why you keep it garaged.

 8) 4.8 0-60 !! Wow, that is some machine. 335 bhp & 369 lb ft torque.  I've just read this review: https://www.evo.co.uk/bmw/1-series/m-coupe

Have you taken it to Cadwell Park?

Welcome to the forum Badger, lots of good gen on here. I, too, am in Lincs but I am not a Yellow Belly, I am a Brighton Cockney.
Nice motor that BMW of yours, certainly worth a track day at Cadwell when things get back to normal.

Vic.

Thank you for the additional welcomes.  :D

The 1M is indeed a special car that I'm lucky to own - the sort of thing I've worked for for a few years.
From what I've seen, BMW tend to be conservative quoting power figures so based purely on the 'bum dyno', I would say the BHP/Torque figures are a little conservative.
Clarkson on Top Gear did review the 1M some time ago:

Mine is an Alpine White version.

My fun car previous to this was a 'stage 2' mK2 Focus RS running 375/369 so I'm familiar with that level of power. This was tuned by Mountune, a Ford endorsed tuner in a similar vein to AMG/Mercedes and M/BMW if you like. I also help moderate a rather large RS forum in my spare time, hence the hint that I like my cars.

I've driven Cadwell Park a few times on trackdays, but so far have not been tempted to take the 1M there due to its unforgiving nature.

Hope that's it now. Google changed my search from "BMW 1M white" to "BMW white".

Hello and welcome. :)

I love that BMW, a few years back I looked at getting a BMW 125i coupe but they were as rare as hen's teeth.
