Which paint colours are easiest to keep clean? (Lost thread)
« on: January 28, 2021, 05:52:28 AM »
Some days ago I replied to a thread about paint colors easy to keep nice, but now the whole thread seems to be disappeared. I cannot find it neither from my recent posts, from any of the subsections nor by any search word. Where did it disappear?

The thread was deleted by admin.

The poster was a spammer, the thread was a cut and paste from another forum. They do this to set up accounts, post something to make them look legit, then later spam the forum with God knows what.

If you want to discuss the relative merits of different paint colours, there's no reason why you can't start your own.

Here maybe? https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?board=67.0

Silver is the answer though. Never looks dirty!  ;D

My light green metallic Carlton, despite 100 motorway miles every day, never looked dirty.

Too late, it's already started here!

Agree with Westy, anything in the mid-grey to silver range is the answer. Anything dark looks mucky, anything light looks mucky... especially around here, it's not worth washing the car until April/May (at least)

Years ago we had a black car (everyone had a black car!), and because we lived beside the alumina processing plant, it got covered in white abrasive powder. Then we got a white car and discovered that the alumina powder was actually grey in colour and showed up just as clearly as on the black.

As an aside, I spent 6 weeks one summer working in the plant and on the "White side" all the steel handrails and checkered footplate were like polished chrome, with years of contact with hands and boots. The alumina from our plant went to produce, among other things, toothpaste.

Similar problem. We have two black cars, and depending upon the prevailing wind, they were regularly covered in spots of ash from the power station chimney until it closed. It all started when the Flue Gas Desulphurisation plant was installed, after that was built all the crap dropped on us locals, presumably due to amount of steam coming out with the flue gases.

You had to be very careful to rinse it off before washing, or it scratched the paint.

I’m not concerned about colour from the washing point of view.
Of far more importance to me, is to be seen on the road.
All my Jazz cars (4), have been in Milano Red, so as to show up on the road.
In my view, colours such as silver, grey, black etc all tend to blend in with the tarmac, making make them difficult to see, from a distance.
I recall many years ago, my first Austin Metro was bright Yellow, because at the time, the Fire Service were considering changing from red to yellow, so as to be seen under certain types a street light, of course that never happened, so for me Red it is.

I liked the Sunset Orange on the Mk. 3 Jazz. It spent all winter turning a darker shade of orange which only become obvious when I finally got round to cleaning the car when spring arrived. Unlike some drivers, I do keep windows, lights and number plates clean even if I let the bodywork get filthy.

Good plan. I do that too. And the door handles and reversing camera lens.
