Honda Jazz 1.4 i-DSI SE 5dr 2006 (£1,995)
« on: February 24, 2017, 04:58:12 PM »
Hi all

I am looking to buy a 2006 Honda Jazz 1.4 i-DSI SE 5dr with 106,000 miles on the clock. It is priced at £1,995. It looks pretty clean and tidy and comes with full service history and has only had 2 owners from new. The dealer will put a full 12 months MOT on the car and although it is too old to put an RAC warranty on he has said he will cover it with a warranty off of his own back. He has also told me that he provides a courtesy HPI check too.

The MOT history looks pretty good from what I can tell...

Just wondered if I could get a few different thoughts on this please as I have no idea what to look for when buying cars. I have heard of Honda's legendary reliability and this is what has drawn me towards this particular vehicle.

So if anybody could help me out I would most definitely appreciate it.

Does this sound like a good buy or is it well overpriced? Also any particular things that I should be aware of to look out for when inspecting and test driving?

Thanks to you all in advance.

Regards

Prime.

You ask if it is overpriced. How much is he asking for it?

This is about the time the mk1 had a face lift.
If it has the tracer indicators in the wing mirrors it is the face lifted version and in my opinion a better buy than the previous version.
You seem to have done your due diligence, and you seem to be getting a good deal.
Check auto trader to confirm the price.
Then if you're happy go for it.

Ask for the waranty in writing inc how long months & how many miles, insist on the offer for 12month MOT ask for fuel to take it away.
Cars of that age its all about condition + how the car drives,
if you enjoy it then go ahead

Exhaust and battery may be at end of life after 10/11 years if not already changed, other than that it's just the condition of serviceable items - tyres, brakes, filters etc.  Bodywork is usually solid but any dealer is likely to have covered over any trouble spots so there probably won't be anything to discover anyway.

Too expensive. I just bout a 2008 with 89k, full MOT, full history for £1500.

2006 is when there was a slight revision in the range. Easiest way to tell is if it has an AUX port

Having recently looked on Autotrader, it's seems to be around the average price. I saw three 2006 models on there recently for just under £3000. I reckon you got a bargain with yours.

Jazzyprime,
That sounds a fair deal.
Just check that the gearbox bearings have been changed. If not, does the gearbox whine. Seems to be a known fault with the Jazz. Mine was changed at around 40,000 miles.
Also, does the clutch pedal squeak when depressed? If so, then the clutch master cylinder will need to be changed.
Not a hard job to do, just awkward.

Not always master cylinder, most times is just a dry pivot bearing at top of pedal - cured with a spray of silicon or PTFE oil (not WD40,  no - take it away !)

I paid £1795, to a dealer, for my 56 plate 1.2 SE last July. At 87K miles it had just been serviced by a Honda mechanic, had a full years MOT, one month warranty and half a tank of petrol. It has been a brilliant little car. About 6 weeks into the ownership I had to replace the battery but that is a wear item and wasn't that expensive to replace. It is returning a genuine 52 mpg. It has an aux power socket but no repeaters on the mirrors, so it appears to be pre-facelift. Not that it matters to me. I won't be selling it until it is time to go to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Sounds like a reasonable price to me especially if it's in good mechanical and body condition and warranted for a year. :)

The "AUX" port mentioned above by Sterling01 isn't a power socket (cigarette lighter socket), it's a 3.5mm audio socket (with a rubber cover) below the cigarette lighter socket for connecting a phone / music player into the car's radio.

Do you have one of those?

The reason you have no repeaters on the mirrors is because you have a 1.2 version. The higher spec versions have repeaters on the mirrors from 2005.

Of this generation of Jazz, the 2005-2008 cars are facelift - it matters to those when shopping for parts.

Yes, I do have one of those. There is no mention of it in the Owners Manual but according to both the Haynes Manual and the Online Manual it is a 12v supply, connected in parallel with the cigarette lighter socket. Once I am up and about again, I will connect my multi-meter across it, and check it out for myself. I would love to be able to connect my iPod to the audio system. Thanks.

They were less stingy for 2006 then! ;D

shows the socket wiring, can't see any power to that AUX, only the cigarette lighter. I've got the leads in front in me on the desk, but as time/daylight was against me in the scrappy, I resigned myself to chopping the wire with the two green plugs in the half.  :(
