Okay. A 1339cc engine, but the main crux of my reply is it is a manual, not a CVT.

I suspect:
dirty EGR Valve
dirty air filter
throttle body gummed up
Worn plugs
Wrong grade oil
Brakes binding

or driving style.

Took it to the Honda garage for a basic checkover since it was 4th owner and I wanted them to use their experience to see things in an unfamiliar design 9 year old car that I might be unaware of. The only thing they thought was necessary was to change the oil and filter and adjust the handbrake (which now has only about 3cm travel without any binding).

Quite a reasonable price - oil/filter materials was about half the cost. They said the engine was fine in all regards and I was just expecting too much having downsized from a twin-cam K20 engine. I had assumed that 2/3 the power would be compensated by 2/3 the weight.

I'm pretty much used to it now and the economy is twice what I got in the 7-seat Stream. My wife loves it (mainly because of the 'magic seats'). My second daughter said unprompted that she really likes it. But I still think there should be a bit more bottom-end in a town iVTEC. I used to have a D16A9 engined car which would pull cleanly in 2nd from 1000 to 8000rpm.

Try a tank full of Shell V power petrol or BP premium petrol and ss if the cleaning additives make any difference.
