Air con
« on: August 12, 2020, 08:19:57 PM »
hi,
When the car is parked with the engine running the air con is barely noticeable, when driving it is better especially on recirculating setting. Honda want £99 to service it, is it worth it?

See what Halfords charge, then decide.

Try several reccomended independent garages.

Several quotes from locals can't hurt.

The Honda scroll compressor is a fixed volume one, so the faster it goes round the more gas it compresses... so if gas low it may not be pumping enough at tick over to cool properly - as suggested Halfords will be half price of Honda for check and regass.  More complicated variable stroke piston compressors fitted to some cars are capable of pumping more at lower speed and reduce stroke at higher revs....the scroll type is simpler and more reliable.

When was the cabin filter last replaced ? As it gets older and more blocked up it reduces air flow through system.. Opie oils do Denso or Mahle filters for mk2 at decent price and good delivery.

I got mine done at an independent for £60 too. Is it worth it? It transformed the aircon. Might depend where you are. Up here in Yorkshire we've only had a few seriously hot days, in the south east I'd imagine it's getting a bit punishing.

Or is it? What do you think?
