looking at hondas line up of current cars looks like the hrv has been dropped. thought they might have made a hybrid version along side the crv

I had an HRV for a while. After having two CRVs, a Freelander and a Nissan Xtrail I wanted the same thing but smaller. There was nothing particularly wrong with the HRV but it did not spark joy and it became one of the shortest held cars I have had when I needed to size up again for family reasons.

Doesn’t surprise me if it has been discontinued as it seems to me the Crosstar fills a very similar niche.

It certainly seems a rare car in the UK - I can only recall ever having seeing two on the road, and Hondas generally used to be popular around here. 

In America, Jazz (Fit there) has been dropped and HRV is now the entry point for Honda.

I believe the HRV to have been based on the Jazz chassis, so as richardfrost says, the Crossstar will fill the gap.

Low volume sellers with short life spans can often become used car bargains, so one to watch in the future!

There are a surprising number of HR-Vs around here, considering we no longer have a dealership in the town (Kia dealership now). It is not a car I have ever fancied, but there again, I never fancied a Jazz before I bought one!

I'm surprised that the HR-V has been discontinued before announcement of the successor but the design was getting fairly old. It had been available in Asia as the Vezel for a couple of years before arriving in UK. I suspect that the Crosstar has eaten into the HR-V sales (I had an HR-V before getting my Crosstar and the only significant difference in size is in the boot capacity). The Crosstar is much more pleasant to drive due to the response provided by the electric motor. Honda's other motive may have been reduction of the overall CO2 emissions from its sales as these are now subject to financial penalties in Europe (I'm not sure if this includes UK after 31st December).

Honda has a new HR-V in the pipeline https://topelectricsuv.com/news/honda/2022-honda-hrv-launch/. If that's correct then closing down the current production line ready for conversion to the new model could be another reason for discontinuing the UK (and presumably European) sales of the current model. However, given the arrival of the Crosstar on the scene, the HR-V will need to have some additional features. Two that I would give it are (i) towing capability and (ii) part time all-wheel drive. It will be hybrid and it remains to be seen if Honda offer other options such as PHEV.

5 days to go. The HR-V will be a completely different car. Hybrid only. Some think it's the CR-V powertrain, some the Jazz one. The one of the Jazz Hybrid is a de-powered drivetrain from the Honda Insight available in the US. I strongly suspect that they take over that one but without de-powering it, so about 150 hp.

The HR-V sales creeped a long time because it 1.5 engine was poor and it was not a AWD.

The HR-V is a small crossover that nobody seems to want in a market that likes small crossovers (juding by the number of Nissan Jukes and Renault Capturs).

They are so popular and I really don't get it at all. I can't think of a worse looking car on the road today to be fair, ugly. I understand the rear seats are tiny and the auto boxes are made of balsa wood. I assume they are bought because of attractive PCP rates as apposed to aesthetic value!
