Honda had a lot of warranty claims which required a new (better) EGR valve, the problem was not confined just to the Jazz, the Insight too. The issue with the EGR being the position sensor within the EGR , the position sensor is an electrical potentiometer of about 5000 ohms, the position may be anywhere between fully closed or fully open as a %, The car ECU commands a % opening of the EGR and reads the potentiometer signal to see if position is achieved, the defective EGRs potentiometer developed a dead spot for position and the ECU "stalls waiting for the position signal. Hence the hesitancy.
i know of one DIY engineer who stripped the EGR and installed a new potentiometer purchased from RS components, but the work is beyond most people. From Ebay you can buy pattern EGrs for around £50, are they any good?
