Decent price insurance
« on: May 07, 2019, 03:52:49 PM »
Hi all. It's coming up to a year since I bought my Jazz (for my daughter). The insurance is in her name (to accrue her no claims) and me and the wife are named drivers on the policy. With me as the main driver the cheapest fully comp quote I can get is £1100 (down from £1462 last year). Is this just what we have to put up with or are there any decent realistic insurance companies out there? By the way we DON'T want a black box fitted!

I usually alternate twixt  Direct Line and John Lewis you become a new account each time,  and they offer a quote to suck you in  bless there hearts.

I must say the amount you stated seems a little OTT to say the  least, if  Any other clubjazz member has other options I am Listening.

Do you ever drive the car? If not, take yourselves off the policy. For what it's worth, I insured my lad with Admiral from when he passed his test age 21 to last year when he moved to London and left the Jazz here. First year was about £1100 but it dropped off rapidly to about £500 last year. No black box. Initially I put my car with them too so we had the two car policy but in individual names so he could build up his no claims.

It's sometimes cheaper if you only add one named driver rather than two, usually the one with the best/longest driving record.

Try a number of comparison sites, prices can vary between them quite a bit - for the same policy from the same insurance companies! Confused.com usually comes out with the cheapest policies for me.

Also worth trying specialist brokers.

Just to add, I have all this to come soon as our eldest has just got her provisional in the post today...  :-X

Disappointing to hear you had a bad experience with quotemehappy. I found them 25% cheaper than any other quotes.  I purchased by visiting Topcashback selecting confused ,com and then selecting quotemehappy.

One man's meat is another man's poison and everyone's circumstances are different.

I'm surprised that Adrian Flux hasn't offered to quote.  ::)

I am a new driver, only passed in January, and my insurance was £800 for 10 months accelerated no claims, fully comp.

I am with Admiral. No black box fitted.

I am 32 years old though so I suspect age plays a part.

My daughter is 19 and at Uni most of the time, so I'm the main driver as it's much more economical than my Land Rover Discovery! I've spent hours on comparison sites now and £1100 is about as cheap as it gets with the insurance in her name (she passed last year) and me and wife as named drivers. Need to build up daughters no claims though so I guess I'll have to put up and shut up!  ::)

I got my renewal from Lloyds today for £412. I had already had quotes from Confused.com including one from Lloyds for £349. I called Lloyds to discuss the matter and was told that the best they could do was £398 but that if I had a better quote from Confused then go for that as it is treated as new business. This I did and confirmed with Lloyds that I was not renewing. I gave them my new policy number which was then checked and was confirmed to be OK so I saved £63. The crazy world of insurance.

If you were inclined to stay with the same company, it's worth noting that Lloyds Insurance is operated by BISL (Budget Insurance) as a white-label service, and that there are many other companies on the comparison sites that are exactly the same - so check out all of the quotes from the other BISL motor insurance brands - Halifax, RAC, Post Office, Bradford & Bingley, Yes Insurance, HSBC, Barclays, Autotrader, Bennetts, Pearl, Dial Direct, Ecoinsurance, iBuyeco, Pearl, and of course Budget. There are probably more.

The company in use by Lloyds on this occasion is Aviva as it was last year but I agree with your comments about BISL. You are advised during dealing with Lloyds that they use BISL.

Vic.

You're not actually dealing with Lloyds at all, BISL run the whole operation on behalf of the namesake, including providing the insurance, documentation and the sales staff. All of these companies operate through the same BISL call centre.

BISL act as a broker, and in your case, presumably your insurance was arranged with Aviva as the underwriter.
