stone chips in windscreen
« on: May 24, 2011, 09:21:58 PM »
Anyone here got any ? and where on the screen are they, i had a stone the other day and now i got two tiny chips in the drivers side of the screen but they are within a 4mm circle and about 1mm each and very shallow.

I understand 10mm is the maximum allowed in that area.

I tried to polish them and i got some faint scratches that you can only see in certain angles which i understand they dont count as damage on the mot. but i smoothed off the edges.

Take a look at this.
Stone chips and the MOT from AA
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/safety/windscreen-vision-safety.html

Some windscreen damage can result in an MOT failure – another good reason to get damage repaired promptly.

For the purposes of the MOT test the windscreen is divided into two different zones

Immediately In front of the driver (The "A-zone" – a 290mm wide band centered on the steering column and bounded top and bottom by the wiper swept area) – damage larger than 10mm across will normally result in a failure.
Elsewhere on the windscreen – damage larger than 40mm across will normally result in failure.
