"cabbage meter"
« on: January 24, 2023, 01:14:07 PM »
As I covered  4000 miles the economy meter display shows a laurel wreath instead of the the improving cabbages. What does it measure and using what inputs ?  Do I apply to the dealer for the free cabbage ?

I think of them as little trees .  Pat yourself on the back for the award. You have already had the reward in more  MPG  and the knowledge that maybe one  less polar bear will have to scavenge in rubbish bins for food.

Because he drowned in deep water when the ice flow he was on melted.

Yep.

Lift the boot floor gently, and you will find extra storage there.

You could call it your Cubby Broccoli.

Using a GoldFinger to lift perhaps?

What the Hell does it mean?

On my Renaults it was a constantly changing graph, that used a leaf which got bigger, and a % alongside each category..
Gearchange
Acceleration
Breaking
Anticipation
.. at least I could see where I was progressing or going wrong. The Jazz has illuminated all the icons, but means diddly squat.

I wish I could hug the little trees.  But seriously  I dont really understand them but they dont  bother me. A scowling Greta Thunberg if I do badly - That I'd want to switch off.

I remember when I worked for BT and being advised by a lousy company app that my braking and speed needed attention, what done me is that the car wouldn’t send info back as to me being cut up, when in heavy traffic etc etc.

Personally I find it all too much having big brother deciding how good I am.

First time I read about it was in 2008 or 2009. It was introduced in the Insight. I had a Civic Hybrid which did not have it.
It depends on multiple parameters:
- gentle acceleration
- no or gentle braking
- lower maximum speed
- keeping momentum in corners
- etc.

It is only a bit ‘big brother’ since the data stays within the BC and only the result is shown.
After 22,000 km (about 14,000 miles) my cabbages are fully grown and have been for the past 15,000. Never seen the laurel though…

Personally I dont mind my performance being monitored,  as long as it doesnt tell anyone else. ;D  Especially when its complementary . But if its critical that doesnt mean its wrong.

" O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae mony a blunder free us,
An' foolish notion:  "     Robert Burns  1786

For those who do not understand Scottish dialect,(which may include google translate) I have translated it thus
"Oh would some power the gift give us
To see ourselves as others see us,
It would from many a blunder free us,
and foolish notion.
