Honda Jazz service plans

Hi

I'm getting my Jazz and my mum's Jazz serviced with an official Honda Garage (two different garages actually).

I'm doing a year 5 service, she is doing a year 6. It appears both garages want to give us a major service.

Does anybody know what service we are supposed to get on year 5 and and year 6? (And perhaps 7,8,9,10 for future records!).

They are wanting to charge me £545 for year 5 including  oil & filter, pollen filter, air filter, fuel filter & brake fluid replacement (AB2478). Does the fuel filter get changed in year 5? That's an extra £200 it seems.

With my mother's car (year 6) it's £345 but then they are taking about fuel filter, CVT, valve clearance, spark plug replacements - about an extra £700-£800? Huh?

I think you are being quoted too much if the cars have a full service history. I paid £550 in total for the first 5 annual services in 2016. Year 5 is a smaller service than years 4 or 6 I think, provided the mileage is not excessive. I don’t think plug changes are necessary unless you mother’s car is very high mileage (70,000 plus). I’m not changing mine at the 7th service due shortly, as my mileage is only 57,000.  CVT oil changes are due every 2 years. Don’t forget to ask for continuing Honda roadside assistance if you have them
 serviced at main dealers.

To put some numbers to this. The two years Sevice plan extension cost £511.

The extras in the actual service bill in the first of these two years, ie sixth year, was £329 (extra to the service plan).

The extras in the £329 included:
Fuel detox (£17.50)
Air Con treatment (£22.50)
Alternator belt (£106)
Fuel filter replacement (£183)

The £329 did not include CVT oil change which was changed but included in the Service Plan.
It also did not include plugs because I had been forced to change them recently due misfiring.

You can do the arithmetic but I effectively paid an total around £580 for the six year service and it would have been more if the plugs had been changed. (Car had 68,000 at time of service).

All numbers include VAT.

Around 6-7 years is a good time to get a younger Jazz unless you are keeping it for the long haul.
You end up with the very expensive platinum spark plugs being due at approx £350 and the valve clearance check at approx £150.
Also all our brake discs are almost due to be changed as they are close to the limit. That's probably £500-600.

Standard plugs for Jazz are Iridium...superior to and more expensive than platinum.

Iridium plugs are in the region £80-100 for four to buy. My local garage supplied and fitted for £130.

Mine needed replacing at 62000 due misfiring.

Here's the service checklist I received from my dealer a few years ago. It includes some explanatory notes not shown on the checklist above.

It's obvious why the Honda service plan is 5 years / 60k miles: It avoids having to include the expensive 6th service.

they only check valves by ear, they dont actually do anything unless they hear anything unusual

Part of the 12 plan due this month is “ Car protection kit “ would any member know exactly what this consists of.
Cost over two services approx £600 with free MOT.

I think "car protection kit" is the seat cover and mat cover they put in to keep grease monkey overalls and boots off your nice clean interior.

Note that I paid £329 for extra required service items (not repair items) at the six year service.

I was hoping it to be something a bit more substantial ie at least a polishing kit.
As to repairs due to COVID and bus pass the car has only done 9000 miles. So expecting a clean bill of health.

Ah... my car had 70,000 miles so my £329 probably included items that wouldn't be needed on your car.
