Final day with my Jazz.
« on: December 27, 2022, 12:00:29 PM »
Today was the final day of using my Jazz and after we came home from shopping I parked it up in the corner of the drib and transferred the insurance over to my Fabia. I still have to clear out all my bits and pieces.

I have owned it for six and a half years and covered 62547 miles. During that time I have used 1117 gallons of petrol at an average of 55 mpg. Total running cost ££13919.76 which works out at 22p per mile. 25p per mile if I factor in the initial purchase price of £1795.

The space-saver wheel and tools are brand new, having never been out of the car.

It has only let me down once, five weeks after buying it, when it wouldn't crank over first thing in the morning. The battery had failed. The RAC came out, fitted a new battery, and has run like clockwork ever since. I would recommend a Honda Jazz to anybody.

I just hope my Skoda Fabia serves me as well.

Really interesting and very impressive stats Jocko. It's a cliche but the Jazz doesn't owe you anything. I guess, as well, a sympathetic driving style will have helped with longevity as well as impressive fuel economy.

I doubt very much  it will be as good. A year ago a friend of mine bought a a diesel Fabia with 77k miles on it. After less than six months the awful engine blew up, and he scrapped it.

This is petrol, with no turbo to worry about.

Best wishes! The Fabia should be fine. As previously mentioned I also run a Ibiza, same age and mileage as the Jazz. Still going strong but you do get more problems, leaking rear doors, alternator, starter motor, heating fan motor, varies door locks/handle, ABS pump are things I had to replace. But they are easily source on eBay, either new or used at reasonable prices.

This one has still not quite done 70,000 miles and with me racking up a colossal 3,000 miles a year I hope not to have too many problems. But you never can tell.

I hope that the Fabia is just as reliable and trouble-free as the Jazz was. Keep us updated on how it goes.

I stripped everything out of the Jazz that I want (GPS speedometer, ScanGauge, cameras, USB cabling and my fresnel reversing aid). The GPS base for my Viofo A119 V3 camera is attached to the windscreen forever. I will never shift it. I, therefore, went onto the Viofo site and I can purchase a replacement for £16.95 plus postage, so I did.
As an aside, I discovered why my camera appeared to keep stopping. Somehow it had reverted to OEM settings which included going to the screensaver. I had it set always to display the image so I knew when it had started and when it was recording, so I assumed it had stopped. I discovered this when I connected it to a mains-powered USB supply. I also found it had reverted to kph and mp4 file format. I have now updated the firmware and made all my setting changes ready to go into the Fabia.

Even a large flat screwdriver should get the GPS mount off. Just work it slowly, at this point you have nothing to lose.
Let's be careful out there !

I hope the Fabia behaves itself for you and serves you well. The Jazz was indeed a brilliant car for you.
