Newbie from MK
« on: November 02, 2020, 01:21:57 PM »
Hi fellow Jazz Owners,

I've just purchased a 04 Jazz 1.4 SE with 135k miles and drives like its done half that.  Just one niggly problem, the radio doesn't work, I've checked the Fuse and its OK.  What could be the problem?? And also its the older radio/tape unit, would i be able to fit the newer CD unit, are they the same connections..?

Anyway, Im lee and i live in Milton Keynes (Roundabout city)... Is there any other Jazz Owners nearby?

Cheers

Could be the voltage regulator. Does the tape play? My radio went the same way but my CD player still works. The regulator is cheap and once the radio is out, easy to replace for someone with the soldering iron and suitable tools.

I bought one but I will only replace it if I have a need to remove the radio.

Yes, when you turn the lights on, the buttons light up

When you turn the radio on does the display light up? Without the lights on.

Check the supply at the plug if you have a multimeter.

Certainly confirm that there is power at the radio wiring harness with a multimeter or test probe. If there isn't then you need to fix that for starters.

Taking out  the centre console out far enough to check is not difficult. Have a look on You Tube and/or Fitforum for details. Take some photos of what plugs/sockets the wiring harness consists of. There are a couple in existence and you need to know what you have, I think you can buy adapters if your heart is set on a replacement unit that needs it. But you need to know about that in advance.

Could you also post a picture of what the radio/cassette you have fitted looks like? You might need to buy either a 1DIN or 2DIN of one of these to fit a standard unit

RHD Radio/Audio Frame

Depends on you budget and how long you think the car will last of course but best would be to fit a 2D android unit with navigation - they are not too expensive now from China. If not then 1 DIN and just radio plus aux would do. Or even cheaper a radio the same as fitted from a scrapper which will obviously slot in. You could ask the scrapper if he has door speakers too. The ones that go in the front also fit the back and there is probably the wiring sitting there in your car ready to use. Or do you already have rear speakers?

My 2006 S doesn't have rear speakers OR wiring for them. Cheapskates.

Oh right. That may be a Japan thing then. In my previous. lower spec, 2002 GD1 the wires and connectors were there waiting for a speaker to snap into the fitting. The speakers weren't but the wiring was!

OP, that regulator thing is well worth investigating as well if you are OK with a screwdriver and soldering iron. All depends on your budget/how much you want to spend on the car.

Welcome jazzers2011 It's well worth getting to grips with searching this site. If you go to the Mk1 forum and put CD player in the search box, top right, there's lots of useful posts. For instance yes you can put in a jazz CD player.
Good luck
