Perhaps this offers new opportunities for “personalisation”, with a choice of after-sales plug-in sound effects.

Does anybody know where the output port for the sound is? Maybe another sound source could be used. I've been playing around with Arduino processors. Putting together a sound player would be fairly trivial. Any sound you want could be played.

According to Wikipedia the AVAS is required to make a minimum noise of 56Dba at 2 metres and 75Dba max.
However I guess anything other than Honda approved noise, would probably be classed as illegal.
Still think the V8 rumble would be better ;D

I tried to hear mine in a carpark today with the window open.  I didn't hear anything. Even with my hearing aid on.

I'm going to do what we did as boys;  we used one of mums cloths pegs to hold some stiff card against the spokes of our bikes.

A way around the legal requirements might be to leave the designed AVAS sound alone but add ones own sound. A GPS module might be available to detect suitable speeds to turn the sound on and off. I'll do a bit of research....

I used to have one of these on my civic for a laugh to use occasionally years ago - made the car sound like a Ferrari through the speakers in tune with the revs.

Looks like the company is developing solutions that work on EVs and hybrids:

Try here:

email for pricing.
Reading the bumf it looks like that outputs sound through the car internal speakers. AVAS is sent to an external speaker, maybe; anyone know?

Yes, the original soundracer plugged in to the cigarette lighter and ran through the internal speakers.

The new system they have will run through an external speaker, and the speed info can be fed to their system by the OBD port.

In the US, rather than have legal issues with trying to replace the factory AVAS people are looking at ways to make noise in addition to it - if it's louder then there shouldn't be an issue.

It can always be switched off and the factory fitted AVAS will still be there.
