Hello from Manchastarrr:)
« on: June 09, 2019, 05:58:12 PM »
Hi,

Bought my 2008 Se 1.4 iDsi about 2 months ago(57k miles). So far I've been very happy with the car.
Despite having a quite extensive service history (some honda and the rest independent garages) I wasn't impressed. Basic stuff like air and pollen filters looked really dirty especially the cabin one.
So far I've changed:
-engine oil and filter
-brake/clutch fluid
-gearbox oil
-brake pads
-coolant
-cleaned the EGR valve (better mpg by c. 5 mpg town driving)

Next job- spark plugs+valve adjustment.

The jazz is my first car so all work takes me ages to complete, but getting there slowly but surely.

Welcome. When you come to do the plugs remember there are 8. 4 front, 4 back.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

I find the cabin filter gets pretty filthy pretty quickly but it still does it's job so I wouldn't read too much into the fact it was minging, doesn't mean it wasn't changed when it should have been.

You're doing well with your list of jobs if this is your first car, things get easier (and quicker) the more often you do them so don't worry about the time it takes you to do them the first time around, About a year ago I started doing repairs for the first time on my Jazz that I've had for 13 years, I was gutted when I ran out of jobs to do, had to start working on my mate's Vectra just to get my fix.

Keep up the good work and keep us updated.

I would think long and hard about the valve adjustment. From what I have read here, and elsewhere on the internet, it is something that seldom needs to be done and can destroy your engine if not done properly.
If you must, I would say check the clearances, but unless they are well out I would leave them alone.

I agree, “If it aint broke don’t fix it”.    this  is the rule in my book.
and those 4 plugs at the rear are not easy to change, just saying.!!!

Thanks for the replies. True. There's little space to work on the plugs, but have some experience as I service my honda motorcycle. Replacing the plugs there is a pain in the neck.

Rear plugs are not that difficult on the Mk 1. More to remove for the front ones!
