replacing a cassette player with a CD player
« on: August 19, 2012, 01:40:41 AM »
Hello all

I bought my wife a Honda Jazz 1.4 on a 2003 plate about a year  ago and so no problems, great car. The only thing is my wife goes on about not having a CD player, so I have bought an original CD player form a 2007 Jazz from a breakers and now want to replace this with the factory fitted cassete player in our car, I have read much stuff on her so know how to remove it etc but there is talk of chnaging the aerial adapter,  can someone please tell me what this is and where I can get it,  a picture would be helpful along with where to get one and what to ask for ( the aerial adapter must have a technical name?)
many thanks

Not really a DIY task, since in all probability the electronics for the cassette player were embedded with the radio.

If you have a complete radio/CD player, then you have to look for:

Power supply connections (a cable that provides 12 volts when the ignition is on)
The incoming aerial (will be a co-ax cable about 5mm diameter, probably connecting into a flying socket)
Identify the speaker connections (with a good bit of luck this and the power supply might be on a common plug-in connector)
If there is no plug-in connector, which I strongly doubt, then you will have to use a chocolate block connector, but you can identify the speakers one at a time by touching the cables onto an AA battery, whereupon you will hear a soft pop.

The picture below is not a Jazz/Honda connector, but just a generic one that is used by some car radio sets

I believe you should just replace the cassette radio unit with the CD one, I doubt you need an aerial adapter.
(You are going to swap a Honda Jazz radio units.)

To fit a 2007 unit into a 2003 car, you will need a PC5-141 aerial adapter cable.

There is a good pic on amazon.co.uk
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoleads-PC5-141-Aerial-Adaptor-In-Line/dp/B004TW7UA8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1345375450&sr=8-4

The same lead can be found on eBay.co.uk for a bit less money.

many thanks to everyone who replied, I have done a stright sway with a CD player from a 2007 Jazz into my 2003 Jazz that just had a radi cassette in it and the CD player works just fine and fitted stright in.
I will need an aerial adapter so as suggested I have ordered part PC5-141 and when that arrives I will see if it'll do the trick, although many of the shops I tried in Nottingham ( Car Audio centre, car electronics etc) all have said that part PC5-141 is a made for fitting an aftermarket CD player so may not work. I'll let you know how I get on.

well bought the attenna adapter from ebay, part PC5-141 ( just do a search on ebay and you'll find it) cost £21.40, and works perfect so now I have a nice new fitted CD player, total cots £70 inclusive of delivery for CD unit, £21.40 for the attenna adapter and £25 fitting by my local garage = £116.40 not bad at all.
I've uploaded a pic of the CD unit I bought from the breakers which was in almost new condition
