Title: Radio Code grrrrr
Post by: guest6489 on December 20, 2016, 09:10:51 PM
I have a 2011 Jazz that has recently had the battery disconnected and the radio wants me to put a code in.

I have the original wallet the car came with, there are two cars in there, one is the size of a credit card and is for the key number and the other much smaller with a number that has one capital letter and 3 figure like A123. Is this the code for the radio and if so, how do I enter it into said radio. But if this is not the code, where am I likely to find it?

Fanks.

Is there a manual in the wallet?....should tell you how to enter it. There are different radio models.

Can't remember if that A123 type number is likely to be the code, but I am pretty sure Honda has all the codes on a database and you local Honda dealer should be able to tell you if the A123 one is wrong.

The manual says to "enter the 5 digit code using the radio presets"

So I assume the A123 number isn't it.  >:(

It's numbers only, using the radio preset buttons

The Radio Code is also on a credit card sized card which is clearly written 'Anti-Theft Radio Identification Card' with a five figure code and the Radio Serial number.

The Radio Code is also on a credit card sized card which is clearly written 'Anti-Theft Radio Identification Card' with a five figure code and the Radio Serial number.

It's not on there, it's not in the service book either, it just says "Radio Code; N/A".

Dealer wants me to take the car, V5, some ID and some money for the code. They also close at 5, it's a 40 minute drive and I don't finish work until 5.

I contacted Honda UK and got increasingly shirty with them when it became apparent they weren't going to help me. They told me that it was for "security" but didn't explain how anyone would remove the radio from the car or what they would do with it when they had done so, I also pointed out it would be easier to remove the drivers seat than the radio.

Willy is not happy  >:(

True enough, most cars radio is now integrated in the dash rather than on a DIN fitting, I wouldn't have thought there was much of a market for stolen radios nowadays.

Edit: Post your request and I'll see if I can help.
Radio serial number is 8 digits normally on one line (but alternately displayed as Uxxxx then Lxxxx on old Honda cars)
-----

STANDARD UNITS

Turn the ignition key to the ON position make sure the radio is switched OFF
Hold the preset buttons 1 and 6 on the front of your radio.
Keep the buttons 1 and 6 pressed in then turn on your radio
An eight digit serial number will appear on the display of the radio. Example: 40891209  (or U4098 L1209)

For some HONDA SAT NAV UNITS

Turn the ignition key to the ON position make sure the radio is switched OFF
Press and hold the top sections of the SEEK/SKIP and CH/DISC bars.
Now press and let go of the PWR/VOL knob
You should now see the display changing between two screens
An eight digit serial number will now appear on the display Example: 30932019 (or U3093 L2019).

When i got my 3rd jazz it had the wrong radio card with it so when i disconnected the battery i locked the radio out, I was using the car so could not get to a dealer so i phoned Honda uk who said go to your dealer for the code, I took a photo of the car with the radio displaying the serial number and sent it to my other half's phone, she went in during the day with said photo, my DL and reg document together with her docs (same address) and they gave her the code free of charge, if you do the serial number donkey work they dont charge

Thank you for your kind offer. I managed to buy a code off the internet which appeared, as if by magic on my mobile telephone. Said code was inserted into my car wireless and I now have hot and cold running rock music.

Honda UK and my local Honda emporium can go forth and multiply for not helping me very much and designing a (very good) car that needs a radio code and has an empty spare wheel well.

Hello
Please, help me with my radio code, because I can not find a solution anywhere. On the Honda website (https://radio-navicode.honda.com/) after the VIN number, the information is displayed that it is incorrect .... I checked several times in the vehicle and proof and it is definitely correct.

I changed the battery on my mum's jazz this morning and did not realise I would need a code (schoolboy error) I've seen on the posts (Google search) that you seem able to get the codes.

Try 26533.  The code should be with the owners manual, on the inside front cover of the service log, on the original sales handover sheet or in the glove box, if not then write yours down in all these places.

Reg plate not needed so please don't post them.

Dear TG,

Feeling very cheeky asking, but I found this thread where you are helping with this radio code problem whilst searching the net for help.
I've just got off the phone to my local Honda dealer (the Jazz wasn't bought anywhere near here) and they cheerfully told me £20 to get a new code, even after casually saying that they could probably find it on their database anyway if I had reg, V5 etc. All because I had to change the battery after it died.
My wife and kids 'need' music in the car, so please could you attempt to find a code for me?

vin: SHHGG6760AU007862
S/N: 25012656

I understand if you're already peed off with providing these and tell me 'no', especially as I've only just joined the forums!

Many thanks in advance if you can help,

Matt.

Official Honda helpline told me they do not have a database of the codes, only the local dealership does, and it is up to the dealership if they charge you for the service or not.
I then remembered that there was an MOT reminder sticker in the window, and so called that dealership to see if they had the code.
The very nice man in the service dept explained that if the car wasn't sold at their showroom, I would have to take the car in to them so that a) that I'm not just holding a stolen radio unit, and b) they link it to their computer, get a serial number (apparently not the one I had noted down already, he clarified that) and send it to Honda, who would return to them with the code.
Fortunately he checked the reg plate and it was sold by them, so within seconds I had the code to unlock the radio  :)
Greenacre Honda Clitheroe, I salute you.

MattJST, sorry I missed your post but it seems you are sorted out already, not sure why they make life difficult - trouble is the code generator is probably not accessible from everyone's computer at the dealer.  As above, add code to glovebox and service log.

Hi all,
Apologies if this is off topic as this is regarding my Jazz II sat nav system.
The scenario is the same with the battery having been disconnected but it is asking for a 4 digit code - not 5.
Mu local friendly Honda shop claims that is a user chosen code - and will charge €200 for sending it to UK for unlocking.
On the other hand other posters in this forum says Honda can generate 4 digit codes as well.

TG: is there any chance that your program can give med an unlock code for this situation?

I'll give it a go, VIN + 8 digit serial please, codes for Navi units should be OK. I assume digits 0 through 9 can be entered as you are not stuck with just the presets of a regular unit.

from the anti-theft sticker (which has no code printed on in)
I have not been able to get the unit to display the serial.

OK, serial can be found in a similar way to a standard radio/cd unit (hold preset 1 & 6 down while powering on).

Edit: Just watched a demo video of the SD Navi unit, different buttons to the generic version below but serial may be easier to get if it lets you do this - press Menu, then select Information, then Navigation Version, serial should be on screen.  The method below makes less sense for SD units but maybe the only option when code locked.

For some Honda Navi units generic instructions suggests hold down Map, Menu & Cancel (or Back depending on labels) for a good 10 seconds at the code entry screen. From the menu pick Self Diagnosis Mode (or Unit Check on other models), then ECU info (or Navi ECU).  Let it do it's thing and the code should be shown when finished.  May have 3 letters in front of the 8 digits, but I probably only need the 8 digits like 23001234.

Your code might already be on a sticker in the glove box or under the fuse box cover.

I am having difficulty finding the serial.
My Nav looks like attached pic with neither CANCEL nor BACK button. Have not been able to get into any menu from the input screen displayed.
Have tried MAP, MENU, OPTION and any other combinations with the first two keys.
Have already checked the glove compartment for code sticker but will check fuse box when I get to the car.

@MajorG
On the latest full touch screen units, the diagnostic menu is reached by simultaneously pressing Power, Home & Eject.  There may be a combination similar to this?  Hopefully there are not too many permutations to try, but again maybe this menu is only available when unlocked. Another possibility is the backspace key on screen?

Removing the unit to read the code on the back is not too difficult: (http://www.hondafitjazz.com/manual3/en/html_en/000000000001252.html) but original dealer or national Honda may be able to provide unlock code, may just be a case of ringing a few different times.

Sorry I can't be of much more use, but its something I don't have available to test & no-one has put a 'How to' video on YouTube for this yet.

@MajorG

Thanks for your effort. I tried all permutations with no success.
I'll see if I get time to get the unit out of the dashboard this weekend.
Until then: thanks again.

Not getting anything for that combination, to find your radio serial number hold down presets 1 & 6 while powering on the radio, should be 8 digits.

Hi there. Hope someone can help? We’re away from home and have had to restart after the battery went flat... I have the S/N of 28012325. There’s no sign of the sticker in glove compartment that other you tube videos have suggested... :-(

Can anyone let me know what the magic 5 digit code is? Thanks!
Title: Re: Radio Code grrrrr
Post by: guest1372 on March 09, 2018, 11:16:32 AM
Post you VIN number as well, you'll find it at the base of the windscreen or on the plate on the front crossbeam.  Many examples shown above.
i.e. SHHGG6......  or JHMGP1..... etc.

The radio code is not directly tied to the VIN number, but the program asks for it as the first step in order to figure out which model it is dealing with.

TG is getting a lot of traffic. I'm changing the battery on my sons 2010 Jazz this coming week, is there a way to get the needed code before the battery is disconnected? I don't know yet if he has a radio code card or not yet. Anyone have any experience with the radio code savers (little battery device that plugs into auxiliary socket) as an example? Hate to cock it up and and don't want to create work for anyone. Regards John

These are useful, this one 2.5 metes so need to have another battery or vehicle close.   I made one up with a couple of rewireable power socket (cigarette lighter) plugs and a 20 metre roll of cheap twin core speaker cable -  i have used it a couple of times in  as many years and loaned it to family and neigbours but priceless really  - probably cost the same as the one in link but a lot longer. Just make sure the ignition switch is in 'aux' position  to connect power socket to main electrics before you remove battery from car.

There are other things on car like electric windows that can lose their 'auto' settings,  and maybe radio station presets as well as the security code (if it needs one) and also ECU 'learned parameters' - so worthwhile keeping power on system.

Cheers Culzean, I have actually got one made up for a different project (boiling a kettle on journey to South of France) with both Male and Female ends. I'll dig it out and check it over. I thought it might work but nothing lost by asking. Cheers again :)

If you are going to go from car-to-car you need two male ends (the centre pin is positive) and need ignition switch in 'aux' position in both cars - I just turned the radio on in both cars to make sure it was working and power would be getting to the cigarette lighter 'power' socket OK before plugging in both ends of lead and disconnecting the battery I was going to replace.

Some cars have power on the socket all the time, but Honda do not (which can be a good thing to make sure battery does not get flattened).

Halfords also sell plugs that are pre-wired - one reviewer said the twin core tail is not marked as pos or neg - so will need to check that out with a multimeter,  the consequences of getting polarity wrong would be spectacular - I just double checked with ohmeter  that centre pin was connected to centre pin, and outer to outer, which is all that matters  ( the advantage of using speaker cable is that one core has a stripe on it, to make sure polarity is correct otherwise one speaker cone can be going forward while other is going backwards and they cancel each other out and ruin the sound)

The unit allows only 4 digits.
Is the 5 digit code for radio?
Should there be a 4 digit code for navigation unit.
